pose a policy problem
, An executive' committee
recommendation to Huron county
council Friday that pictures of
past wardens be taken at the
June session of council and be
made available to any warden
wishing to buy a copy sparked a
variety Jof comments' from
council: -The committee advised
council that it would make ar-
rangements for the pictures to be
taken and would arrange to ob-
tain prints for individual wardens
who wish to purchase them at
their own expense.
Turnberry Deputy -reeve Harry
Mulvey objected to council
charging past wardens for. the
prints and suggested that the
prints be given to the wardens.
He said it was "pretty.small" of
the county not to pay for the pic-
tures.
Goderich Reeve Bill Clifford
said he would have to vote
against any motion for council to
.buy prints for the• wardens, ad-
ding that council should watch for
these "fringe benefits". -
Seaforth Deputy -reeve. Bill
Dale said he appreciated the ges-,
tore by Mulvey but pointed out's
that if he wanted a picture he
could buy it himself.
A second proposal by the
executive committee, this one for
a golf tournament'. for council
members, department heads,
wardens .and .clerks of neighbor-'
ing counties, touched off some
unusual questions from council.
East Wawanosh Reeve Simon
Hallahan wanted to know if any-
one on the executive committee
knew if council members would
have protection 'at the tourna-
ment.
Committee Chairman Bill Mor-
ley said he didn't know what' kind

Turnberry gets approval
to.start. work on BLine
Turnberry Township last week
received provincial approval of
part of its plan to improve the B -
Line Road in time for the plowing
match next September.
The transportation ministry
approved the start of design
studies for a new bridge and is
awaiting a report on the town-
ship's request for a grant to up-
grade the four miles of rough
road.
The township has asked that
the B -Line be designated a
development road, a proposal
which was supported at the last
meeting of Huron County Coun-
cil.
Approval would mean the prov-
ince assumes the task of bringing
the road up to provincial stan-
dards,
The province will also subsidize
80 per cent of the estimated
$160,000 cost of replacing the old
one lane bridge across the Mait-
land River.
Provincial standards require
widening the road to 100 feet from
its present width of 66 feet and
paving it, at an estimated cost of
$200,000.
In its presentation to the
province and to county council,
Turnberry Township pointed out
the B -Line is a natural bypass of
Wingham, linking Highway 86
east of Bluevale with Highway 4
north of Wingham.
It was felt the road will be
needed to ease traffic movement
during the match. Massive traffic
jams are predicted at the inter-
section of Highways 4 and 86 un-
less an alternative roltte can be
used.
The township noted that, with-
out improvement; "the road is
unfit for other than local traffic.
