Robert has now ,dived up to become a leader. Seniors hold a meeting -euchre BLUE.VALE—The senior citizens' meeting Monday was attended by 35 mem- bers. Following the call to order by President Milton Boyd, the singing of- "0 Canada" and the secretary's report, the audience was stimulated to great mirth and laughter by Harvey Timm's treasurer's report. Having lifted the spirits in great measure, he was awarded a hearty round of applause: Matters of business in- cluded plans for an open euchre tobeheld March 12 at the Bluevale Hall. Following the adjournmentof the meeting, euchre was played which resulted in Mrs. Mel Craig being awarded the high prize for the ladies and Mrs. Earl Elliott, the low. Ross Turvey was high man and Gordon Mundell was low: -Delicious and nutritious refreshments were prepared and served by Mrs. Milton Boyd, Mrs. William Peacock and Mrs. George Fischer. Service is held for Mrs. Poag Marjorie H. Poag of Listowel, associated for many years with the J. H. Keeso and Sons Lumber Ltd. business in Listowel, died in Listowel Memorial 'Hospital on Feb. 25. Mrs. Poag was 62 years oo age. Born Sept. 29, 1921 in. Listowel, she wps the daughter *of the late John and Mildred (Boyd) Keeso. Mrs. Poag was a member of Trinity United Church and the. Listowel Golf and Country Club. She is survived by her husba . three daughters, Mrs. Roy (Colleen) Douglas of Wroxeter, Marina Poag of Waterloo and Mrs. Randy, (Nancy) Brenzil of Strat- ford; . a brother, Harold J. Keeso of Listowel; five grandchildren and several_ nieces and nephews. Mrs. Poag was predeceas- ed by a brother, Jack. Former resident of Turnberry Twp. dies in 92nd year Velma Aitken of Kin- cardine, the former Velma Chandler of ,Turnberry, passed away February 22 in her 92nd year;; -� Born at London, Ontario, she was predeceased by her husband Charlie in 1963. She leaves to mourn her passing two sons, Albert of RR 3, Melbourne, and Stuart of Kincardine; also nine grandchildren , and seven great-grandchildren; and four sisters, Mrs. Ethel Meads of Weston, Mrs. Margaret MacKersie, Mrs. Bertha Niergarth.. and Mrs. Mary Stapleton of Wingham. Funeral service was. conducted Saturday, February 25, at the Davey- Linklater Funeral Home by her pastor, Rev. Clarence McClenaghan, and her grandson, Bruce Aitken, with spring interment in Kincardine Cemetery. Family, friends mourn death of Mrs. R. Powell Family members and many friends in the Gorrie- Wroxeter area were sad- dened to learn of the passing of Mrs, Russell Powell of New Dundee on Monday, February 20, at St. Mary's Hospital, Kitchener. She was in her 65th year and death followed a lengthy illness. The former Gertrude Klinck, she was the beloved wife of Russell Powell; dear mother of Kathleen Powell of Toronto, Mrs. Brian (Jane) Elliott of Kitchener, Murray of Wroxeter, Wilson of Hayward, California, Mrs. John (Carol) Crawford, Belgrave, Richard, Seaforth, and Donna Powell of London. There are three grand- children, four brothers and seven sisters. She was predeceased by he'r parents, Henry and Catherine Klinck, and one brother. A native of Elmira, Mrs. Powell had resided in the Gorrie area from 1950 until 1980. She was a member of the Gorrie United Church and had also joined the United Brethren Church' of New Dundee. Friends paid their respects at the Dreisinger Funeral Home, Elmira, until Thurs- day, February 23, when serv- ice was held at two o'clock. Final resting place will be Hawkesville Cemetery. Miss Brenda Chambers, attending Fansha'we College, Tom Metcalfe dies after long illness A lifelong resident of the Wingham area, Thomas Lorne Metcalfe of 268 Ed- ward Street, Wingham, pass- ed away Tuesday, February 21, at Wingham and'district Hospital following a lengthy illness. He was 83 years of age, born April 15, 1900, in Turnberry Township. One of eight children born to the late John D. Metcalfe and the former Fanny Robinson, Mr. Metcalfe received his elementary education at SS No. 3, Turnberry. He farmed in the township until his retirement in Wingham. On November 17, 1927, he married the former Myrtle Bennett in Glenannan. She survives to mourn his passing, as do one daughter, Mrs. Bob (Verlie) Toman of Orillia; and three sons, Jack CARNIVAL SWEETHEART—Little Amy Wilhelm hand- ed over the title, Sweetheart of the Belmore Ice Car- nival, to this year's winner Melissa Evers last Saturdax evening in Belmore. The sweetheart competition was open to girls seven and under. BR 1SSELS n The second meeting of the Brussels II Swatch Squad was held at the home of the leader with Marie Stute Assisting. The meeting opened with the 4-H Pledge. Charlene Stephenson read the minutes of the first meeting. We got our samples ready to make our sandwich, which is to put batting between two pieces of material. We then did our first quilting, which was kind of tricky. Our leaders showed us the right way to do it. We are to bring material to the next meeting for our string quilting. The meeting closed with the Motto. Clark was veteran of World War 11 A former resident of the village of Wroxeter and a veteran of World War II, James Albert Clark ,of Guildwood Villa Nursing Home, Scarborough, passed away in Scarborough, Cen- tenary Hospital on Friday, February 24. He was in his 75th year and death followed a brief illness. Mr. Clark was born in Sussex, England, a son of the late George Clark and Susan Gibbs. He came to Canada in 1912, residing with his family in ,Toronto for a number of years. In 1933, he came to' Wallace Township and in 1948 he moved to Wroxeter. During his' early adult life Mr. Clark was employed by the Stratford Division of the Department of Highways. He was a member of the rirmed Forces and served as a private in war zones overseas from 1940 until 1945. He retired In 1970 and returned to the Scarborough area to live in 1972. He was a member of St. Stephen's Anglican Church, Gorrie, Howick Legion, Branch 307, and the Masonic Lodge. Funeral service was held at two o'clock on Monday, February 27, at the Gorrie Chapel of M. L. Watts Funeral Homes, under the direction of Doug McBurney and Mrs. Stephanie Kelling- ton. Rev. William Gray of- ficiated. Final resting place will be _Wroxeter Cemetery. Mr. Clark is survived by three sisters, Mrs. William (Doris) Skelton, Scar- borough, Mil, Gordon. (Betty) Rickard, Keswick, and Mrs. Ivan (Margaret) Brothers, Fort Lee, New Jersey; and three brothers, George Clark of Scar- borough, Vern Clark, Wrox- eter, and 13i11 Clark, Kitchen- er. He was predeceased by two sisters.
