Valentine Moth at the February meeting of St. Andrew's Goforth Auxiliary on Tuesday, the 21st. The Upper Room was appropriately decorated with candles, hearts and valentines. Mrs. Terry ,Nethery, convener, opened the meeting with "The Circle of Love" and the hymn, "God Is Love". As part of love and e— MRS. ALLAN GRIFFITH -rth meeti concern for others, the first part of the program focused on a mms.ion study. A '; ilrnatrip about life and worship in Africa was narrated by Mrs. John Donaldson. Mrs. Douglas Lapp examined the role of women in churches in Africa and noted that theirs is a very secondary role. Mrs. Hazel, Hardie read a profile of two Presbyterian Wroxeter Personals Monday visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Vern Clark were Mrs. Gordon Rickard, Mr. and Mrs. Clark Rickard of Keswick, Mr. and Mrs. John Shepherd of Port Perry, Mrs. Ed Ryder, Gayle Skelton and Mr. and Mrs. Nick Worthington, all of Scarborough` Bill Cargill of Hart Lake, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Clark of Kitchener and Mr. and Mrs. Fraser Pollock of Bramalea. All visited at the Clark home after the funeral of the late James Clark. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Clarke visited his mother, Mrs. Winnifred Johnston, in Listowel Sunday evening. Residents of the village are pleased to see Mr. and Mrs. Reg Watson home following two and a half months' vacation in Florida where the weather was ideal. Mr. and Mrs. James Robertson, Goderich, were Sunday guests with their cousin, Mrs. Allan Griffith, the occasion being Jim's birthday. Mrs. Harvey Reidt, who accompanied three friends from Wingham on a bus tour to Winterhaven and Fort Lauderdale, Florida, for 19 days, returned home at the, weekend. They visited other cities and towns as well and she reports the scenery and weather were fabulous. Mr. and Mrs. Reg Watson visited their son and family, Mr. and Mrs. Bert Watson, Toronto, enroute home from Florida. Sympathy is extended to Mr. and Mrs. Vern Clark and family on the death of a brother and uncle, James Clark of Toronto, formerly of this village. Clarence Clement and Peter Isabelle, Mississauga, visited with Mr. and Mrs. Milford Campbell last Tuesday. Mrs. Ron Gilbert and Krista of Harriston visited Sunday at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Olive' Riley. SCHOOL OPERETTA --The Grade 7 and 8 students from the Wingham Public School. are presenting the operetta "The Truth About Cinderella" this Thursday evening for parents and friends at the school. Kira Stuckey plays Cinderella, the young woman who escapes her life of working in kitchens and marries a handsome prince. missionaries in Africa, Bill and Betsy Kennedy. Mrs. Donaldson then read a recent newspaper article about the drought in Africa. A� incredible drop of 16.2 iahs in food production over a year's time was reported. The mission portion of the program was closed with prayer and the African spiritual, "Kum Ba Yah", was sung. The "Goforth Players" were then introduced by' Mrs. Nethery with a reading from I Corinthians, chapter 13, continuing the love theme. The main character of the play had planned a valentine tea but her plans were soon altered by the death of a friend's mother and an accident involving the daughter of another friend. Instead of a valentine tea, the ladies spent their time planning how to help these friends in need and put their love into action. Mrs. Don Montgomery and Mrs. Nethery sang "Love Lifted Me" and `I Am So Glad That Jesus Loves Me", accompanied by Mrs. Hugh Clugston. Mrs. Gertie Tiffin led a short Bible study and closed the program with prayer. Mrs. Raymond Neill and Mrs. Robert Arbuckle conducted the business portion of the meeting.. Mrs. Robert McKague and Mrs. Robert Campbell informed the ladies of the need for help with the upcoming Synodical to be held in St. Andrew's in April. A social time followed. WI discusses world affairs BELGRAVE — The world affairs meeting of the WI was held at the WI Hall and began with a pot -luck dinner at 12:30 p.m. at which the members entertained their families and friends. The president, Mrs. Jim Hunter, welcomed everyone, "0 Canada" was sung and grace was said by the Rev. John G. Roberts. Following a bountiful meal, the roll call was answered by stating, what we as individuals can do to improve the world. Mrs.. Hunter 'unveiled a barn board 'painting by Don Vair of Belgrave, and dedi- cated . it in memory of the late Mrs. Willard Arm- strong: The collection and pennies for friendship were taken. The program convener, Mrs. Garner Nicholson, in- troduced Mr, and Mrs. George Michie who showed slides and gave a very inter- esting and informative com- mentary on their trip to the Yukon. Mrs. Nicholson thanked them on behalf of all for sharing their journey with us. The business meeting be- gan with the reading of the minutes, the financial state- ment and the correspon- dence. The WI will cater to the East Wawanosh Federa- tion of Agriculture dinner on March 13, at 12 o'clock noon, and the Morris Federation of Agriculture on March 19, at 7:30 p.m. Mrs. Alice Scott and Mrs. Ross Taylor willwrite up material for the Huron Coun- ty Historical atlas. The meeting closed with "The Queen", Mrs. Norman Coul- tes pianist. BRUSSELS LEGION WINNERS—Winners in the public speaking contest hosted by the Brussels Legion branch last week were Scott Johnston, first, and Will Perrie, second, in the junior division and Corrinna Stephenson, first, and Lowell Winger, second, in the senior division. Les Brewer and Don Blenkhorn of the Legion presented plaques to the winners, while all competitors received cheques from the Legion. Whitechurch friends are pleased that Mrs. Webster Jacklin was transferred to Listowel Memorial Hospital from Kitchener hospital last Wednesday. Mrs. Archie Purdon and Kathy and Mrs. Kevin Falconer visited Mrs. Jacklin on Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Archie ,Purdon visited Sunday with Mr. and Mrs: -Ross Henry at Goderich. On Sunday evening a birthday party was held at the home of Mr. and, Mrs. Alan Falconer, Tony and Amy, for brother Timmy. Attending were Mr. and Mrs. Kevin Falconer, Mrs: -Angus Falconer, Mrs. Robert Mowbray, Mr. and Mrs. Wes Tiffin, Mrs. George Tiffin -and Mr. and Mrs: Wallace Milligan. Among Timmy's MRS. The National meeting of Whitechurch Women's In- stitute will be held March 14 at 2 p.m. at Copeland Lodge, Wingham. World Day of Prayer will be held Friday, March 2, at 2:30 p.m. in Knox Presbyter- ian Church, Belgrave. The roll call was "A law we are thankful for." Judy Jones gave the scripture reading and the group was invited to attend the World . Day of Prayer service at Duff's Church, Walton, on Friday, March 2. Mary Ann Ryan and Sharon Blake will give readings. A rummage and bake sale will be held in the church basement on April 28. Special valentine's cake was served with coffee by Karen Parker, Margaret Kelly and Annie Sterner. On Feb. 19 auxiliary ministers were installed at St. Ambrose Church; they are Rose Mary and Herman Terpstra, Pat and Don Nolan and Sharon and Irene Blake. BRUSSELS PUBLIC SPEAKERS—Finalists from Grey Central and Brussels public schools met at the Brussels Legion Hall last week to compete in public speaking.
