Atom Silver Stick begins Molldav Three junior and two senior Mustangs
The 10th annual Wingham Re-
gional Atom Silver Stick hockey
tournament gets under way Mon-
day evening.
Sixteen teams are competing in
the annual event which will be
played at the Lockridge Memorial
Arena. The tournament concludes
Sunday afternoon with the champi-
onship matches.
Teams competing in the 'A' cat-
egory of the B-1 division are
Mitchell, Walkerton, Port Elgin,
and Kincardine.
Competing teams in the 'B' cate-
gory are Wingham, Seaforth, Lis-
towel, and Minto.
Teams competing in the 'C' cat-
egory of the B-2 division are Ri-
pley, Tara, Stephen Township, and
Chesley.
Competing teams in the 'D' cat-
egory are Brussels, Teeswater,
Lucknow, and Mildmay.
The tournament gets under way
Monday with Mitchell playing
Walkerton at 7 p.m. and Port Elgin
going against Kincardine at 8:30
p.m.
Wingham tangles with Scaforth
at 7 p.m. on Tuesday and Listowel
faces off against Minto at 8:30 p.m.
Ripley plays Tara at 7 p.m. on
Wednesday and Stephen Township
skates against Chesley at 8:30 p.m

Thursday, Nov. 23
'A' Division
Harvey Bolton and Brian Leach-
man were first in the single round 50 -
point game division with four wins.
Jack Arnold and John Schaus were
second with two wins and +65. Eric
Hewitt and Bill McAstocker were
third with two wins and +60. Harold
Carter and Hank Carter were fourth
with one win and +118. Paul McKee
and Jim Bolton were fifth with one
win and +76.
'B' Division
Wilf Towns and Bill Anger were
first in the single round 30 -point divi-
sion with five wins and +21.
Dan Stacey and Terry Anger were
second with four wins and +54.
Lorne Kuntz and George Warner
were third with four wins and +39.
Harold Maize and Ian Lowell were
fourth with four wins and +38. Ber-
nard Ruetz and Bob Burr were fifth
with two wins and +87. Ralph Koop-
mans and Peter DeGroot were sixth
with two wins and +70. Lorne Hamil-
ton and Bob Gavreluk were seventh
with no wins and +105.
Saturday, Nov. 25
'A' Division
Tom Murray of Elmira was first in
the single round 40 -point game sin-
gles competition of the horseshoes
tournament held Saturday at the
Wingham Sportsmen Club. He had
six wins.
Jack Arnold of Mildmay was sec-
ond with five wins and +25. Buster
Hilker of Elmira was third with three
wins and +68. Wayne Woods of
Chesley was fourth with three wins
and +58. Don Frook of Elmira was
fifth with two wins and +129. Paul
Wintermeyer of Elmira was sixth
with two wins and +95. Jim Nelson
of Walkerton was seventh with no
wins and +158.
'B' Division
Skip Rogers of Walkerton and
Hank Carter of Wingham were first
in the double round 50 -point game
'B' division with five wins and +20.
Brian Leachman of Wingham and
JoAnn Woods of Chesley were sec-
ond with four wins and +85. Al
MacKenzie of Amberley and Peter
Both of Elmira were third with two
wins and +133. Paul McKee of
Wingham and Keith Lovell of Exeter
were fourth with one win and +170.
'C' Division
Peter DeGroot of Goderich and
Hank Carter of Wingham were first
in the double round 30 -point 'C' divi-
sion with six wins and +52. Jim 1301 -
ton of Walkerton and Lorne Kuntz of
Chepstow were second with six wins
and +49.
Steve Aberle of Elmira and Lorne
Hamilton of Wingham were third
with three wins and +91. Doug Van-
derwoude and Dave Colley of Wing-
ham were fourth with three wins and
+83. Wayne Uttley of Elmira and
Barry Hogg of Wingham were fifth
with two wins and +80.
The next tournament is Saturday.
Dec. 9 beginning at 9 a.m. and 1 p.m.
Three games are played Thurs-
day. Brussels goes against Teeswa-
ter at 6:15 p.m., Luckow tangles
with Mildmay at 7:30 p.m., and
Mitchell faces off against Port El-
gin at 8:45 p.m.
Walkerton skates against Kincar-
dine in the first game on Friday, at
6:15 p.m. Following the opening
ceremonies, Wingham Optimist At-
oms take on Listowel at 7:30 p.m.,
and Seaforth plays Minto at 8:45
p.m.
Play resumes Saturday morning
at 8 a.m. at both the Lockridge Me-
morial Arena and the Betmore Are-
na.
The B-1 championship is played
Sunday at 3:30 p.m. and the B-2
championship is played at 4:45
p.m.

INSTITUTE EUCHRE
The Maitland Women's Institute,
Wingham, hosted a card party last
Wednesday, Nov. 22, in the council
chambers of the Wingham Town
Hall with 10 tables in play.
Winners were: high lady, Olive
Jamieson; low lady, Priscilla Bray;
high man, Garner Nicholson and
low man, Lorne Jamieson. Several
lucky draws were held and a social
time enjoyed by all.
BELGRAVE EUCHRE
There were 12 tables in play at
the Women's Institute Hall on
Wednesday, Nov. 22. High lady
was Shirley Hackett; most 2s, Au-
drey Edgar; lone hands, Lois
Chamney and low lady, Norma
Moore.
Lloyd Appleby was the high
man; most 2s, Gordon Thedorf;
lone hands, Edythe Coultes, play-
ing as a man and low man, Ruth
Johnston, also playing as a man.
The next Belgrave euchre is to-
night, Nov. 29, at 8 p.m. Everyone

Three members of the WOSSA
champion Madill junior Mustangs
were selected to the Huron County
all-star team.
The Huron -Perth all-star game
was played last night at South Hu-
ron Secondary School in Exeter.
Selected to the team from Ma-
dill were Matt Smith, Andrew
Exel, and Michael Nolan. Madill
coach Audrey Bos will coach the
Huron junior tram.
Senior Mustangs selected to the
Huron County senior squad were
Adam Carr and Mike Puddy.
During the intermission, two
professional Keach volleyball
players will play against six col-
lege players.
One of the beach volleyball
players, and his regular partner are
ranked fifth in North America, and
have qualified for the 1996 Sum-
mer Olympics in Atlanta.
Junior Mustangs felled by Strathroy
Sixth ranked Madill Mustangs
went up against third ranked
Strathroy in their only contest at
the junior girls WOSSA basketball
championships held Friday in Stat -
ford.
The Mustangs were handed a
71-46 setback, to conclude the
basketball season with a record of
10 wins and two losses.
Andrea Hiller hooped 18 points
for the Mustangs with Michaela
Johnston hitting for 12 and Joanne
Huber adding seven.
Central Elgin of St. Thomas
went on to win the WOSSA title.
They were the top ranked team.
Madill coach Chris Coulthard
said the players received a real ed-
ucation at the WOSSA champion-
ship.
However, he added that Madill
had a real good season this year.
He noted that three members of
the junior Mustangs will he mov-
ing up to the senior team next
year. The three arc Hiller, Huber,
and Johnston.
Coulthard said there are a num-
ber of good players staying in jun-
ior ball and coming up from mid-
get.
