St. Andrew's Presbyterian
Church in Wingham will once
again be home to the Huron County
Christmas Bureau.
This is the second year that St.
Andrew's has hosted the bureau,
following a tradition of Wingham
churches alternating the service.
Marg Mann and Come Nixon of
St. Andrew's are heading a team of
volunteers which will coordinate
the Christmas Bureau, sponsored
by the Children's Aid Society of
Huron County.
Starting the week of Monday,
Dec. 4 and running until Friday,
Dec. 8, Christmas Burea volunteers
will be accepting donations of new
clothes, new toys, non-perishable
food items or donations of cash or
cheques. Donations may be made
from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at St. An-
drew's.
As well, there will be a food box
at Wingham Mini Mart. Tagged •
Christmas trees also can be found
at Maclntyre's Bakery and Pando-
ra's Pantry.
Mrs. Mann and Mrs. Nixon both
say. there often is a need for cloth-
ing for older children. In fact, last
year they spent $1,200 in local
stores purchasing clothing to sup-
plement bureau donations.
Once all the collections have
been made; the appointments will
be made for people to come in and
select items for their families. They
receive one piece- of new clothing
and one toy for each child, as well
as a food box and a food voucher
with which . they may buy their
Christmas turkey.
Mrs. Mann reports the bureau
served 80 local .families and 190

children in 1994 and expects the
need will be even greater this year
with provincial government cuts to
social assistance.
The Christmas Bureau could not
operate without the generous sup-
port of area Churches and citizens.
More food has been collected al-
ready this year than last, due main-
ly to appeals put out by local
Churches to members. The Wing -
ham Salvation Army also is mount-
ing its own appeal for clothing,
toys and food this year and will be
working along with the Christmas
Bureau to ensure everyone in'
Wingham and area has a merry
Christmas.

Ninth

Musicfest

Mass band to
highlight high
school program
CLINTON - For the ninth consecu-
tive year the music programs at
four Huron County high schools
will present their Musicfest concert
to the public. Wednesday, Novem-
ber 22 will find the concert bands
of Wingham, Goderich, Exeter and
Clinton high schools joining for a
half day of workshops, rehearsals
and a concert.
The culmination of the day's
work will be a public concert at
7:30 in Central Huron Secondary
School's auditorium. This concert
will showcase each separate band
and the combining of all four bands
into a massed group of some 150
young instrumentalists.
The day's activities are the
brain -child of the schools' music
teachers. This year John Matthews,
Al Mullin, Rob Robilliard and Sue
Wyatt are pleased to present this
evening's concert.
The massed band will be con-
ducted by Prof. David Smith, of the
Faculty .of Music, University of
Western Ontario.
While the massed band will oc-
cupy much of the space in the-
CHSS auditorium, there is still
plenty of room for an audience.
The students are becoming more
skilled as musicians each year, and
the concert promises to be a musi-
cal treat. Go and enjoy it. Like
Christmas, it happens only once a
year.
