Santa
visits
Windham
Saturday
Wingham and area children
are preparing their gift lists for
the annual visit of Santa Claus.
The annual Wingham Opti-
mist Club Santa Claus parade
will be held Saturday, begin-
ning at 1 p.m.
Parade organizer Kathy Ma-
chan said a total of 48 entries
have been received for the pa-
rade, including 25 floats. This
is up over the number of entries•
in last year's parade.
She said there has been a
good response from the local
businesses: The only factor in
the success of the parade that
organizers are unable to control
is the weather.
"We are hoping for good
weather," said Machan.
Among the bands featured in
the parade will be schoolbands
from Howick Central School
and Lucknow. Also, the F.E.
Madill Secondary ..SchoOk .band
and choir will also be perform-
ing.
The Wingham Canadettes
majorette corps will once again
be marching in the parade.
Canadian junior and senior
men's record holder in the pole
vault, Doug Wood of Wing -
ham, is the parade grand mar -
shall. He will be leading the
Wingham Optimist Track and
Field Club entry in the parade.
The parade will feature Hu-
ron MPP Helen Johns. There
will also be entries with mem-
bers of Wingham town council,
and representatives of Turnber-
ry Township council.
Machan said local businesses
will also be well represented in
the parade, including new com-
ers Brian's valu-mart. She add-
ed that Chisholm Fuels will
again have an entry in the pa-
rade.
