Wingham and area obituaries
CLARK. -Percy William Clark of
Kincardine and formerly of Wing -
ham, passed away on Monday, Oct.
2, 1995, at Kincardine District and
General Hospital. He was in his
82nd year.
Mr. Clark was the beloved hus-
band of the former Helen Wilson
and the dear father of Linda and
Dale Farrell of RR 2, Ripley and
Brian and Melanie Clark of Mark-
ham. He was the dear grandfather
of Todd Farrell, Tracy and her hus-
band Steven Hallam and Annzley
Clark.
Percy Clark also is survived by
sisters Irene Farrier of Wingham
and Margaret Calvert, Cambridge.
He was predeceased by a sister,
Laura Farrow.
For many years, Mr. Clark
owned and operated a plumbing
business on Edward Street in Wing -
ham. He was a member of St. An-
drew's Presbyterian Church, its ses-
sion and a member of Wingham
Masonic Lodge No. 286 AF & AM.
There was no funeral home visi-
tation. A funeral service was held
at the McBurney Funeral Home in
Wingham on Thursday, Oct. 5, at
1:30 p.m., conducted by Rev. John
P, Vaudry. There was a private in-
terment in Wingham Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Fred McGee,
Ken McKague, Bob McKague,
Andy Jones, Todd Farrell and Steve
Hallam. Tracy Hallam carried ()or-
." al tributes.
In lieu of flowers, donations to
the Heart and Stroke Foundation or
the charity of your choice would he
appreciated.
FITCH-Clara 1. Fitch of Fordwich
and formerly of Wingham, passed
away at the Fordwich Village Nurs-
ing Home on Wednesday, Oct. 4,
1995. She was in her 94th year.'
The former Clara Collins, she
was the beloved wife of the late
James A. Fitch, who predeceased
her in 1984.
Mrs. Fitch received her early ed-
ucation at Armow and later at the
Kincardine High School and the
Stratford Normal School. She was a
school teacher at Belmore, and in
Northern Ontario.
She was married in Watrous,
Sask. and returned to the Wingham
area in 1938! A member of the
Wingham United Church, the
Wingham United .jhii ch Wooten ,
and the Mary Hastings Club, she
went to live' at the Fordwich Vil-
lage Nursing Home in January of
1994.
Left to mourn their mother's
passing is Donna and Donald King
of Fordwich and Maxine and Wil-
liam Hanna of Waterloo. Also sur-
viving is Mrs. Fitch's brother, Mil-
ton Collins, of Whiterock, B.C., as
well as four grandchildren and 10
great-grandchildren. Mrs. Fitch
was predeceased by sisters Edith,
Irene and Louise and her brothers,
Edgar, Ivan and Clifford. •
Visitation was held at the
McBurney Funeral Home in Wing -
ham on Thursday, Oct. 5, from 3 to d
5 and 7 to 9 p.m., where the funeral
service was held on Friday, Oct. 6,
at 1:30 p.m. with Rev. J. Rea Grant
officiating. Interment in Wroxeter
Cemetery.
Pallbearers included Peter King,
Mark Brunarski, Lee Brunarski,
Bill Hanna, Ted Sommerville and
Keith MacKay. Flower bearers
were Pat Brunarski and Debbie
Sommerville.
Memorial donations to the Wing -
ham United Church, the Fordwich
Village Nursing Home Residents'
Council or palliative care would be
appreciated as expressions of sym-
pathy.
HOLLOWAY --At Wingham and
District Hospital on Wednesday,
Oct. 4, 1995, Ross Holloway of
Wingham died in his 73rd year.
He was the beloved husband of
the late Frances Graham, who pre-
deceased him in 1993.
Mr. Holloway is survived by his
brother•Stuart of Wingham and one
sister, Mrs. Gordon (Beth) Dobie of
Auburn. Also surviving are several
nieces and nephews. He was prede-
ceased by sisters Doris, Myrtle and
Ruth and brothers Edmund (Ted)
and Jack.
Visitation was • held at the
McBurney Funeral Home in Wing -
ham on Friday, Oct. 6, from 7 to 9
p.m. A complete funeral service
was held in the funeral home on
Saturday, Oct. 7, at 1:30 p.m. with
Lieut. Marc Pittock officiating. In-
terment later in Wingham Ceme-
tert.
A Royal Canadian Legion me-
morial service was held at the fu-
neral home on Friday at 7 p.m.
Memorial. donations to the Wing -
ham Salvation Army Family Wor-
ship Centre would be appreciated
as expressions of sympathy.
KING --Eva Ellen King of Pine -
crest Manor Nursing Home, Luck -
now and formerly of Bervie passed
away at Wingham and District Hos-
pital on .Thursday, Sept. 28, 1995.
She was 97 years of age.
Born Oct. 23, 1897, in Alber-
marle Township in Bruce County,
Mrs. King was a daughter of the
late John Willex Hepburn and his
wife, Hanna Jane Shaw. She mar-
ried her husband, George Arthur
King, on Dec. 3, 1919, at Wiarton.
Left to mourn• the passing of
their mothee are: Mrs; Stuart (Mil-
dred) Couch of RR 6, Wiarton;
Mrs. Wilbert (Pearl) Hodgins of
Wingham; Willex and his wife
Maxine of RR 4, Kincardine and
Wilma and her husband, Cecil Sut-
ton of RR 3, Ripley. There are 16
grandchildren, 26 great-
grandchildren and 12 great -great
grandchildren.
Mrs. King was predeceased .by
her husband George; a daughter,
Mae Myatt and four •ea.i/,
Arthur Ward, Stuart Couch, Wil-
bert Hodgins and Ray Myatt.
The funeral was held on Satur-
day, Sept. 30, at the Davey-
Linklater Funeral Home in Kincar-
ine with Rev. Derwyn Docken of.
Chalmers Church officiating A
granddaughter, Evelyn Elliott, was
soloist. Charles Wallis delivered
the eulogy.
Carrying floral tributes were
granddaughters Tammy Sutton,
Lanna Abbott, Cindy Couch and
Martha Kern, while grandsons Ear-
nest Ward, Larry Hodgins, Robert
Sutton, Rodney Sutton, Keith King
and Don Myatt were pallbearers.
Interment in Kincardine Cemetery.
McGEE--George R. McGee of RR
3, Wingham, passed away on Fri-
day, Oct. 6, 1995, at Seafort'h Com-
munity Hospital in his 73rd year.
Born Oct. 4, 1923, in East Waw-
anosh Township, George McGee
was a son of the late Leask and
Bertha McGee. He received his ed-
ucation at Fordyce Public School
and Wingham District High
School.
Farming was his chosen profes-
sion and he farmed all his life in
East Wawanosh Township. It made
him keenly aware of the outdoors
and the scenic beauty which sur-
rounded the area where he lived.
George McGee was a faithful
member of Calvin -Brick United
Church and had previously served
on various boards of the Church.
He was a quiet, compassionate and
Christian person, who was highly
respected by all who knew him.
Mr. McGee was much loved by
his wife and best friend, the former
Jessie Currie, who is left to mourn
his passing. He also is survived by
three daughters and one son: Linda
and Ralph Logan of Wyoming;
Marian Strauss of Waterloo; Mar-
lene and Don Procter, RR 4, Brus-
sels and Jim and Chris McGee of
RR 3, Wingham.
Mr. McGee was always very in-
terested in the activities of all' his
family members and was especially
proud of his nine grandchildren:
Kevin and Trevor • Logan; Jackie
and Laura Strauss; Rob, Courtney
and Cody McGee and Carl and El-
len Procter. He will be sadly
missed by all his family. May he
rest in peace.
In addition to his parents, Mr.
McGee was predeceased by his
brother,. James T.. McGee and one
sister, Helen Viola Hunt.
Visitation was held at the
McBurney. Funeral Home in Wing -
ham on Sunday, Oct. 8, from 2 to 4
and 7 to 9 p.m. The funeral service
was held in the funeral home on
Monday, Oct. 9, at 1:30 p.m. with
Rev. Mary -Jane Hobden officiat-
ing.
Carrying George McGee to his
final resting place at Wingham Ce-
metery were grandsons Kevin and
Trevor Logan and Rob McGee, as
well as Fred McGee, Allen Kikkert
and Ivan Dow.
Six grandchildren carried floral
tributes: Jackie and Laura Strauss,
Courtney and Cody McGee and
Carl and Ellen Procter.

WALTERS--Kenneth D. Walters
of Teeswater and formerly of Ed-
monton, Alta., passed away on
Thursday, Oct. 5, 1995, at Wing -
ham and District Hospital. He was
in his 49th year.
The beloved son of Peg Walters
of Teeswater, he is the dear brother
of Len and Yvonne Walters of
Wingham and Cathy Walters of
London. He also is survived by a
niece and nephew, Trina and Blaine
McKittrick.
Visitation was held at the Mac-
Pherson Funeral Chapel, Teeswa-
ter, on Friday, Oct. 6, from 2 to 4
and 7 to 9 p.m. The funeral service
was held at the funeral home on
'Saturday, Oct. 7, at II a.m. with
Rev. Stephen Lindsay officiating.
Interment in Wingham Cemetery.

dian Cancer Society or Wingham

wedding
anniversary
A celebration was held recently
to honor Mr. and Mrs. Jack Tiffin
of Waterloo, formerly of Wingham,
on the occasion of their 50th wed-
° ding anniversary.
The couple was married Oct, 2,
1945, by Rev. Harold Snell at the
United Church manse in Auburn.
Jack and Ruth (nee Thompson)
have two sons: Stephen and his
. wife Karen of Waterloo and Roger
and his wife Diane, who recently
moved to Maple Creek. B.C. There
are live grandchildren.
To celebrate the happy occasion,
a dinner with family and friends
was held at Golf's Steak House,
Bridgeport, on Sunday, Oct. 1, with
a time of visiting following at the
home of Stephen and Karen Tiffin.
Guests included Roger Tiffin of
Maple Creek, B.C.,; Stephen, Kar-
en, Geoffrey and Amy Tiffin of
Waterloo; Ruth's sister Grace and
her husband, Jake Jutzi of Water-
loo; Roger and Kate Mills and Dan-
ny and Sandy. Holowaty of the De-
troit area and Mr. and Mrs. Nelson
Hobbs of Waterloo.
Those attending from this area
were: Sam and Anne Thompson;
Ted and Florence Thompson
(Ruth's brothers); Sadie Tiffin
(Jack's sister-in-law) and her chil-
dren David Tiffin and Rev. Rea and
Hilda (Tiffin) Grant. Also in atten-
dance were Mr. and Mrs. Bill Grant
of Toronto and Andrea Grant of
Waterloo.

WDCLA
conducts
early -bird
draw
The Wingham and District Com-
munity Living Association
(WDCLA) held its first early -bird
draw late last morel. The winner of
the $500 prize was Mary Anne
Chadwick of Wingham.
The dray was made by WDCLA
board member Alice Baker at the
new administrative office in the
Jack Reavie Centre, 153 John
Street in Wingham. The next draw
is Oct. 20 and there still is time to
purchase a ticket for the dinner and
dance.
The remaining 20 prizes (10
prizes of $100 and 10 prizes of
$1,000) will be drawn at the dinner
and dance en Saturday, Nov. 4, at
the Brussels, Morris and Grey
Community Centre. A limited num-
ber of tickets still are available at
the WDCLA office, 357-3562.
Based upon the choices and de-
sires of the people it supports,
WDCLA staff provide the neces-
sary resources, training and sup-
ports to help people become in-
volved in their community. In this,
the 17th year of the lottery dinner
and dance, the money raised from
the evept is ev :n more important in
helping theassociation reach its.

roast
LUCKNOW!'The Lricknow and
District Christian School recently
held its annual pork roast. Howev-
er, this year marked a special occa-
sion -- the 15th anniversary of the
opening of the school.
The Christian School had its be-
ginnings wher7 group of parents
came together with a strong desire
to have their children educated in a.,,
Christ -centred school. A board was
set up and held its first meeting in
1966. In 1978, the membership vot-
ed in favor of buying 7.3 acres of
land east of Lucknow. The new,
four -room school opened its doors
in September of 1980. .
Many changes have taken place
in the last 15 years. In 1990, an-
other classroom and a gymnasium
were added. This interdenomina-
tional school at present has an en-
rolment of 75 pupils, with three
full-time and three part-time teach-
ers.
Families and visitors shared an
enjoyable evening viewing the
many pictures of former staff and
students and reminiscing.

Reverend
to speak
at service
The Rev. Dr. Ian Rennie of Wil-
lowdale will speak at the 133rd an-
niversary services at St. Andrew's
Presbyterian Church in Wingham
this Sunday. Oct. 15, at 11 a.m: and
7:30 p.m.
Dr. Rennie has pastored in
churches in Petawawa and Vancou-
ver. He was Professor of Church
History at Regent College in Van-
couver from 1972-81 and then
Dean and Professor of Church His-
tory at the Ontario Theological
Seminary in Willowdale until Au-
gust of this year. He continues as
Professor of Church History a:

meeting of the Women's Institute
was held in the hall and convened

Jean Wilson le the Huron East
District Women's Institute gave a
most informative report. of the
ACWW convention, which she re-
cently attended in New Zealand.
Her pictures were most entertain-
ing. Later, refreshments were
served by Mrs. M. Craig and Mrs.
Darlow.
At the meeting in Bluevale hall
today. Oct. 11, at 2 p.m., Tatum
Mathers will speak on her experi-
ences as an exchange student to
Great Britain. Everyone is wel-
come.
