Over 700 athletes from all over Canada and the United States competed, in the meet. The temper- ature was 30+C and windy. ' Nolan was awarded the MVP trophy as the outstanding male athlete in the intermediate division and Dickson was awarded the MVP trophy as the outstanding fe- male athlete in the youth division. Nolan was first in the discus with a throw of 36.38 .metres and first in the 400 -metre hurdles in a time of 1:03 minutes. He was sec- ond in the 110 -metre hurdles in • 18.49 seconds and second in the shot put with a toss of10.87 me- tres: - Dickson won the 100 -metre hurdles in 20.67 seconds, and was silver medalist in the long jump with a lead of 4.25 metres,. -and in the high jump by clearing the bar at 1.37 metres. Lara Fenton won the gold med- al in the 400 metres with a time of 1:11.4 minutes. Julie Nolan was the silver med- al in the high jump by clearing the bar at 1.10 metres. She had a jump of 2.87 metres in the long jump and ran the 400 metres in 1:28 minutes. Jaden Dickson was a silver medalist in the long jump with a leap of 3.49 metres, She also ran the 100 metres. Jennifer Fenton was fourth in the 1500 metres in 6:05 minutes. Adam Fenton ran the 400 me- tres. Al Dickson won the gold medal in the men's open long jump. Colts. - ..Pitcher Bill Haines started the Co men's fastball tournament on the weekend, against Sebringville start and was relieved by Jason Daw. The Colts ended up losing Mike MacKay clubbed a two -run home run for the Colts. Mitchell evened their best three of five WOAA Major Midget playoff series by scoring a 4-3 de- cision over Belgrave last Wednes- day. Mitchell won the opening game of the series, but the game was awarded to Belgrave after it was discovered that uncarded umpires were used. In game two of the series, Bel - grave scored a run in the second inning on a walk to Joel Pegg, fol- lowed by singles by Chris Stewart and Todd Edgar. Mitchell tied the game in the fourth on a single and double. The game remained tied after seven in- nings and went to extra innings. The wheels fell off Belgrave's defence in the eighth as Mitchell plated three runs on a single, two misplayed fly balls in the outfield, and a throwing error. Belgrave battled back with two in the bottom of the inning. Brent Robinson singled, stole second and scored on Pegg's single. He didn't have a good to the Sebringville squad 6-4. ets win Brussels touia BRUSSELS - A two -rub home run by Don O'Connell in the fourth inning carried Mitchell Mets to a 4-2 decision over the Belmore Stingers in the champion- ship final of the 24th annual Brus- sels invitational men's fastball tournament held on the weekend. In the consolation final, the Camlachie Rebels edged out the Brussels Tigers to win the title. The Mets took advantage of Belmore errors in the opening in- ning of the championshi1 game, as they put a pair of runs across the plate in the bottom of the first. The Stingers evened the score with two runs in the top of the third. However, the Mets won the $800 first prize with O'Connell's blast in the bottom of the fourth. The Stingers received the runner- up prize of $350. Jeff Pauli was the winning hurl- er for the Mets, with relief help from Dan McClure. Chris Eadie went the distance on the mound for the Stingers. Pauli had a pair of singles for the Mets with Joe Harris getting a double. Kory Dietz and Bob Ward each rapped out a single. Jeff Dickson had four singles for the Stingers. Scott Smith, Jay d Don Busby each hit Marston, an a double wi:13. Jeff Fischer, Paul Tolton, and Shawn Smith rapping t out one single apiece. The Mets got past the K -W Pride 6-1 to reach the final and the Stingers defeated St. Paul's Gener- als 6-1 to advance to the final. In the consolation final, Camla- chie scored one run in the top of the second inning with the Tigers tying the game in the third. The Rebels scored once in the top of the fifth to pull out the 2-1 deci- sion. Camlachie received the $400 first prize ad Brussels received the $200 runner-up award. Randy Livingston started on the mound for the Rebels and needed relief help from Norm King in the final inning. • Todd Uhrig went the distance on the mound for Brussels. Ian McEachren hit a triple for Camlachie with Livingston, Brian Helps, and Jamie Canton each get- ting a single. Ken Higgins and Brett Clarkson had singles for the Tigers. Camlachie downed London Ga - tors 8-0 to reach thefinal and Camlachie got past the Wingham Colts 11-3 to advance to the final. Jason Daw started for the Colts with Scott Neil taking over in re- lief. The 4 Aces won the opening game, 3-1, last Tuesday evening in Clifford. Scott Neil hurled a three -hitter in the game played Friday at the Josephine Street$allpark. He gave up four walks and struck out nine. Reg Walls started on the mound for Clifford and lasted 1 2/3 in- nings before being relieved by Chad Reid. They gave up nine hits and four walks and combined for four strike outs. Third base player Mike Mackay paced the Colts offensively, going 3 -for -4 at the plate. Left fielder Tom Mcti nald had two hits in four at -bats, and Neil had one hit in three plate appearances. First base player Peter Bosch was 1 -for -3 at the plate for Clif- ford. McDonald drove in a pair of runs on the first inning with a sin- gle to give the Colts a 3-0 lead. MacKay singled in a run in the fourth inning to give Wingham a 6-3 lead.
