BRUSSELS - Penalties and inju-
ries tokey personnel have proven
costly to the Brussels Bulls as they
battle Mount Forest Patriots in the
Western Junior 'C' Hockey League
final series.
The Bulls allowed five power
play markers Sunday afternoon as
the Patriots scored a 7-2 decision
over the Bulls at the Brussels -
Morris -Grey Community Centre.
On Friday, in Mount Forest, the
Bulls rallied from a 2-0 first peri-
od deficit to tie the game at three
after 40 minutes of play. But, the
Patriots rallied for a 5-4 win.
The Bulls were without the ser-
vices of number one goaltender
Ryan Fisk and blueliner Zack
Smith, both sustaining injuries in
Friday's contest.
Fisk suffered an ankle injury
late in the third period of Friday's
contest, but remained in the game.
Unable to move quickly, he gave
up the winning goal with 2:41 left
in the game. He is expected to
play this weekend.
Smith will be lost for three
weeks after running into the goal -
post Friday evening, and injuring
his knee.
While the Bulls lost the services,
of Fisk and Smith, the Patriots lost
the league's top goalie, Tom Clark,
when he had his finger .broken
when making a save on Friday.
Jon Biesenthal was in net for
the Patriots on Sunday, and
blocked 29 of the 31 shots directed
his way by the Bulls.
McNevan opened the scoring
foe Brussels Sunday afternoon,
just 46 seconds into the game, as
the Bulls were forechecking in the
Mount Forest zone.
The Patriots connected for four
goals, including three on the pow-
er play, to take a 4-1 lead after the
first period. Jason MacDougall
netted the first two Mount Forest
markers with Curtis Pinder and
Jeff Parker adding singles.
Jeff Rahn gave the Patriots a 5-
1 advantage about five minutes
into the second period, on the
power play.
Just over a minute later, the
Bulls scored as Pete Mulder netted
his first of the playoffs at 5:57
with Brussels having a two-man
advantage.
At 6:41 Rob Kirk took advan-
tage of sloppy passing by the Bulls
in the neutral zone, and scored a
shorthanded goal on a breakaway.
The Bulls found themselves
two -men short on a couple of oc-
cassions, late in the middle period,
but some strong penalty killing
kept the Patriots from adding to
their total.
Aaron Small concluded the
scoring in the game for the Patri-
ots, with a third period power play
goal.
In Mount Forest Friday eve-
ning, the Bulls trailed 2-0 after the
first, but rallied to gain a 3-3 draw
after 40 minutes. t.
McNevan gave the Bulls a 4-3
lead with just over five minutes re-
maining, but the Patriots tied the
game and fired the winner with
2:41 remaming.
Sheldon Mustard had a goal and
three assists for the Bulls with sin-
gle markers added by Brian Zabel,
Nate Bender and McNevan.
Scoring for the Patriots were
Ryan Montgomery, John Kollias,
Rick Lytle, Parker and Pinder.
Game three in the series will be
played Friday in Mount Forest at
8:30 p.m. The fourth game will be
played in Brussels at 9 p.m. Satur-
day, with game five, if necessary,
going Sunday at 1:30, p.m. in
