CSA standards
now accepted
overseas
Canadian Standards Association
(CSA) has signed reciprocal testing
agreements with two product test-
ing organizations across the
Atlantic.
Under the new agreements, both
BSI in Great Britain and KEMA in
the Netherlands will be accepting
CSA testing standards for goods
manufactured in Canada. The move
will assist Canadian manufacturers
in exporting their products, accord-
ing to a CSA statement released
recently.
KEMA has acted on CSA's behalf
for about 36 years as a testing, certi-
fication and inspection agency for
European manufacturers wishing to
sell products in Canada, and BSI
has also acted in this capacity on
behalf of British manufacturers.
Under the new agreement, both
organizations will allow CSA to
assess Canadian goods on their
behalf.
Similar agreements have been
made with Japan Electrical Testing
Laboratory and JMI Institute in
Japan to facilitate the export of
North American goods to Japan.
Implementation of the recent
Free Trade Agreement gave added
impetus to the movement toward
greater compatibility of Canadian
and U.S. standards.
