SENIORS' DAY
CENTRE NEWS
By Christine Gibson
The month of July seemed to fly
by. Lots of activities, have been
planned for August by our summer
student, Charlene Conley. This
week the summer day -camp kids
will be visiting with us in the after-
noon.
Next Tuesday Lee Bray will be
demonstrating lawnchair macrame
to the group. On Aug. 10, we will
be heading to the Waterloo Farm-
ers' Market for the day. We are all
looking forward to our noon meal
at Elmira.
On Aug. 15 and 16 we will be
making rag wreaths in preparation
for our annual craft and bake sale
in November.
From Aug. 22 to 24, our summer
student has planned entertainment
for every afternoon. Water exercises
also continue on Fridays through-
out the month of August.
To wrap up the month, we will
be attending a performance of "The
King and I" at Grand Bend on Aug.
31.
The next foot clinic has been
scheduled for Aug. 17 in the after-
noon. Please call the centre at 357-
1440 or 357-1445 for an appoint-
ment.
This is a reminder to our board of
directors: there will be no board
meeting during the month of
August. See you in September.
Volunteers are a very important
part of our organization. Did your
know that Canadians volunteer
approximately 66 million hours
each year. If we paid these volun-
teers the minimum wage, we
would be putting out approximate-
ly $330,000,000 yearly. That is some-
thing to think about.
If you are interested in volunteer-
ing a couple of hours per week to
work with the elderly, please con-
tact nip at the day centre, Monday
to Friday.
