The Town of Goderich has
requested broadening the in-
vtigation into a proposal which
*mid see the county administration
Officesmoved out. of that town.
However, Huron County Warden
Robert Bell Called the request
"premature" at the September
meeting of county council held last
week.
Earlier this year the county's
executive committee hired an ar-
chitect to determine if the Huron -
view home at Clinton could be R;ef-
'f rdablY renovated to house the
county administration offices, now
located at Goderich.
T:eport, says Mr. 'Bell, is "as
'far as it's gone". He later added that-.
renovating Huronview after
residents, are moved to a -proposed
new facility may be too expensive.
"lf that happens, the whole thing
is dead," Mr. Bell said.
Goderich Mayor Eileen Palmer
argued that moving the county of-
fices to .Clinton could have drastic
'econl ie#_.implicationse-Sheeuur'geed
county council to look at alter-
natives, including persuading an
Ontario government ministry to
decentralize to Huron County and
set up offices at the Huronview site.
"The
current feasibility study is a .
lite bit slipshod, sin there are no
terms-. of reference for the architect
and, only one alternative is being
looked at," Mrs,Palmer:saad.
Her comrefts . echo those ex-
pressed' at - a meeting last m i_th
between the county executive
co rimitee and Goderich's ad;
ministration eo,Mraittee.
"if and when a `decision is made.,; it
willbe in the bestinterest of the
county," said Mr. Bell. t"f' feel that
concerns and 'presentations such as
this (by the Town of Goderich) :are
very premature at this time,"
Mr. Bell was the only one to speak
at county council after Mrs. Pokier
and Goderich Councillor Bill Clif-
-ford,. _ chairrnan of the town's ad-
ministration committee. He asked
that the county+ hire a consultant to
look at all alternatives..
