Madill athletes sl
records at Sarnia m
The F. E. Madill Track and Field
Team competed in a "field meet"
last week in Sarnia. At this meet,
athletes competed in pairs, com-
bining their distances thrown and
eights jumped to determine their
rankings.
By the end of the meet, Madill had
made its presence felt, shattering
three meet records.
The first record to fall was in the
open pole vault division with Mike
Cardy jumping 3.5 metres and Bevin
Flett soaring 4.2m for a new per-
sonal best. Cardy and Flett's total
combined height broke the 12 -year-
old record by .9 metres. Flett also
set a new individual record .with
4.2m jump.
Shortly afterward, the Madill
Midget boys earned some attention
in the discus circle. The combined
team of Craig King and Andrew Lee
shattered a 14 -year-old record by
over seven metres.
Lee threw a personal best of 34rn
and King sent the discus flying
51.08m to set a new individual meet
record and also gain a new Madill
record.
The third meet record set by
Madill was in the Midget pole vault
by the Jamie Johnston -Jason
Bloemberg team. Bloemberg, in his
first pole vault competition, jumped
2.65m and Johnston attained a new
personal best of 3.05m. Their com-
bined height earned them a new
meet record and broke the one set 14
years ago.
Other competitors who earned
team points were:
Joan .Kikkert and Caroline Ver-
steeg, third in the open discus;
Darlene Kikkert and Angie Kerr,
third izhe Midget javelin;
Bloemberg and Johnston, third in
the Midget boys' triple jump;
Lee and King, fourth in the Midget.

fourth in the open triple jump;
Jackie Wittig and Trish
McDonald, fourth •in the Midget
discus and;
Wittig and Patty Knight, fifth in
the Midget shot put.
The next meet will be the Huron -
Perth competition to be held today,
Tuesday and tomorrow in Goderich.
Competitors mast place in the top
three at Huron -Perth to advance to
the W rn Ontario competition the
folio ng week.
