'l ;Ingham Deput`. Reeve Bill Har- ris concerned about litter on town streets, and last Wednesday asked the Wingham Beard or Polis Com- missioners to direct. Police chief Bob Wittig to check into °possible solutions to the problem. Mr. Harris, one of two Town of Wingham representatives on the. board, brought up the littering prob- lem at the commission's regular May meeting. He asked if the town had an anti- littering bylaw to prevent people from "chucking cigarette boxes and milk cartons all over the main street, from one end to the other." Other members of town council ! ac.d also observed people littering, bed. Beard Charman Fred McGee said the public should bemadeaware of the problem. "I think it's an education thing as much as it is a bylaw matter," he. said. "if parents taught their chil- dren not to litter, it would go a long way toward preventing it." Since litter on private coMmercial property can also be a problem, Wingham Mayor Jack Kopas, the town's other representative on the board, suggested that during Mr. Wittig's investigation, he also check to see if the town's property stand- ards bylaw addresses the ac- cumulation of litter on private property. lardlnember Ii0 -, the attention of e s h group of 'Beay. m.. What I do know is that he is a very troubled young man. I've been his manager since he began giving concerts as a teenager. I've seen his highs and his lows. And I've seen many times when his piano seemed to be the only thing that sustained him. David gets lots of professional help, and takes medication when he needs it for.. his dep Tessio-. rBut-he'stold me.. many times that Ile could„never make it through tife without the of'his friends and the people in the classical music industry. I guess the lesson is that even concert pianists can have mental health problems.” People like David are getting back on theirfeet more frequently these days... partly because treatment of mental health problems has improved dramatically, and partly because the rest of society is leaning to be more understanding and supportive.
