Perhaps spring is not too far away
as your correspondent and Mrs.
Oliver Riley spotted a fat groundhog
in a field on the Behnore road on
Wednesday and the crows are flying
around in great numbers and noisily
making themselves heard.
Wroxeter Senior Citizens held
their euchre Wednesday evening
with seven tables in ,play. Winners
were: first, Mrs. Jim Pritchard and
Art Gibson; second, - Mrs, George
Fischer and Hugh Mundell; novelty,
Jim Pritchard and Milt Boyd,
Friends were sorry to hear Mrs,
Stella Pocaluyko is a patient in
Wingham and District Hospital and
hope her stay is of short duration.
Mark Adams is a member of the
F. E. Madill Secondary School
curling team which will advance to
the Ontario Schoolboys' Provincial
Championship in Welland Feb. 25 to
27. Other team members are Darryl
Button and Steve McKague of
Teeswater and Kevin Eadie, RR 2,
his 80th birthday Wingham. Congratulations, boys!
• WROXETER — A long-time and
well-known resident of this com-
munity, -Ken -Edgar, celebrated his
80th birthday late last month at an
open house in the community hall,
hosted by his family.
Mr. Edgar is a retired manual
training teacher and carpenter. He
is very active in the community
being a charter member of the
Howick Lions Club and an avid
baseball enthusiast during the
summer months.
His four children are: Mrs.
Gordo, (Bonnie) Hislop of
VirrOte*i- Catherine Of Wroxeter;
Louise' of letilhelusi and Davey and
his wife 'Sandra .of Gorrie. He has
one grandson, Jason Edgar.
Over 250 friends, relatives,
neighbors and former pupils at-
tended the open house to honor Mr.
Edgar and wish him a happy birth-

FORDWICH-wThe senior citizens
held their card party on Friday night
but, due to weather conditions, there
was a small turnout. Five tables
were in play and all reported they
had a good evening.

teresting roll call provided

meeting of the Women's Institute.
Ten members and one visitor gave
comments on a pioneer industry in
Howick Township and many in-
teresting facts were given. Some
could scarcely' believe that Howick
ever had men going from place to
place gathering hardwood ashes.

lye, the balance of the ashes were
taken to a local ashery in the
township and later shipped in large
shipments to Great Britain, Ger.

President Mrs. Alvin Grainger
presided. After singing the Ode and
repeating the Collect, the, minutes
were read by Mrs. William Thorn-
ton, secretary. An invitation from
Ethel WI to visit them on March 9 at
8 p.m. in the WI Hall was accepted.
Mrs. .Simmons gave the motto,
"Canada -- ASymphony in Color and
Resources". She spoke on the beauty
of each province and the resources
found in each. Many of these
resources have made Canada self-
sustaining and are widely exported
but our agricultural resource, with
its related industries, is the main
resource still today. Time after
time, statesmen say our nation's
greatest asset is our agricultural
resource.

with a city bride. This skit was filled
with laughs, truths and perplexities.
Mrs. Faust portrayed the farmer
and Mrs. Simmons the city bride.
Mrs. Faust gave a reading from the
book, "Bumps in my Overalls" by G.
Ireland.
A contest on local points of interest
in Ontario caused much thought.
Lunch was served by the hostess and
Mrs. Alex Taylor. The March
meeting will be at Mrs. Alex
Taylor's home.
