MRS: ALLAN GRIFFITH Baby walkers pose hazards Baby walkers look in- nocent enough. But those wheeled frames designed to give mobility to infants who are still unsteady on their feet are hurting many Canadian children. Infants have fallen down unbarricaded stairways and suffered concussions or crushed fingers in walkers that collapsed or tipped over. Death has resulted in a number of cases. There is no medical evidence that use of4t walker helps to develop walking skills. In fact, some pediatricians suggest the units may encourage ab- normal walking in babies who stand on their toes. The walkers give infants the height and mobility to reach hazards such as hot surfaces and 'household poisons. The infant can move at an alarming rate — as much as a metre a second — allowing him to reach dangerous areas before the parent is aware. The Ontario Safety League warns parents not to use a baby walker as a convenient babysitter. - Wroxeter Personals Mr. and Mrs. Paul Higgins of Elk Point, Alberta, are visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Stewart Higgins.
