Mr. Whiteley's class
thought Education Week was
great. The students especial-
ly enjoyed the talent show.
All they have heard is posi-
tive comments from parents,
pupils and teachers. Thanks
to all who made the talent
show such a success.

Mary Jane, Billy, Barry
and Alan went to ' the
Regional Special Olympics
from our Golden Circle
School. They all participated
in the swimming event.
Mary Jane placed second,in
the 25 -metre freestyle and
`illy was first in .the 25-
metre- freestyle. Barry was
third in his division for the
same event and Alan was
first. The students were
placed into groups by age
and ability level.
During open house four
parents and their children
went bowling. Kevin Wilson
was bowler of the month —
congratulations, Kevin.
They all went on a tour of
fire hall last Tuesday from.
the Golden Circle.
Congratulations. ,to
everyone who participateid
the special olympics.

Mrs. Kaufman's Grade 2-3
class has been doing spring
pictures and paper mache in
art. The children also have
been making booklets. The
Grade 2s did dragons and the
Grade 3s did grass.
They also have a lamb
(plant pottery) .

St. John Ambulance re-
minds you to. watch for signs
of wear and tear in a small
child's toys. Loose parts and
sharp edges can be danger-
ous. Throw away a broken
toy, that' can't be fixed. St.
John Ambulance offers a
course in childcare and de-
velopment, and a course for
young babysitters.
Mrs. Martin's Grade 3 has
been busy Making bee
puppets following their bee
theme. Also the majority,of
the two Grade 3 classes have,
joined the primary garden'
club with Mrs.. Martin and
Mrs. Kaufman. They have
started planting their own
seeds.

Mrs. " King's and Mrs.
Schedler's class is studying
how bean seeds growinto
bean plants. Everybody got
a little baby -food jar and
doused a paper towel with
water and stuck a bean seed
in ' the jar.. They saw two
films: "Seeds Grow into
Plants" and "The Wonder of
Growing Plants". These two
films are helping them
understand how beans grow.
They are keeping charts to
record the growth of the
plants.
In the classroom they are.
talking about spring. Mrs.
King is telling. the _students
what you do on the farm in
the spring.

Last week Mr. Martin's
and Miss Buist's classes took
a trip to Toronto where they
visited the Ontario Science
Centre and rode to the top of

class also built various bird
houses which , they made
during art class. Presently
they have been selling them
and they are going very fast.

Kindergarten has been
doing some paintings about
what their favorite activity
is in the junior yard.
They are working on the
letter "P" and currently are
working on sets of nine. The
class is hoping that Mrs.
Robertson is feeling better
and will soon be back to
a, school.

"Checkmate!" is one word
that is feared by most
players from the chess club.,,
Mr. Morton is the organizer
of the club and plays with the
children. The final tour-
nament started last Thurs-
day with the best players
from Grades 5 to 8 par-
ticipating. It will be held for
five or six weeks and then a
great big trophy (and a
smile) will mark the winner.
