Based on the short story,
"A Cap for Steve" by Can-
adian author Morley Calla-
ghan, "The Cap" stars Jen-
nifer Dale, Michael Ironsidg
and Nicolas Podbrey in an
intriguing family drama
about values. .
Dave Diamond (Ironside),
an unemployed laborer, is
given tickets to a Montreal
Expos game by his wife,
Anna (Dale). Their son,
Steve (Podbrey) is thrilled
when his father announces
he will be taking him to the
game. Steve hopes to meet
his idol, Andre (The Hawk)
' Dawson.
The two of them arrive at
Olympic Stadium well before
game time and,. through a°
friend, are introduced to
Dawson. After he gives Steve
his autograph, teammate
Tim Raines playfully pushes
off his cap. Steve picks up.
the cap and is so awestruck
he cannot react when Daw-
son asks for its return.
Eventually, Dawson says he
can get another:
The following days and
nights are the happiest in
Steve's life. He wears his cap
everywhere and is proud to
show it to his friends.
The happiness, however,
turns to grief a few days
later when Steve finds his
cap missing.
