Committee to recommend on
fate of cty. pioneer museum
The Huron County Pioneer
Museum has been closed to
the public and the fate of the
structure will be deliberated
upon by a museum com-
mittee.
After receiving the final
copy of a study by engineers
B. M. Ross and Associates of
Goderich, which said ..the
structure fails to meet
building and fire code
requirements, county
council accepted a recom-
mendation to close the
building immediately.
The workshop, marine
•museum and log cabin will
remain' open. .
In view of the problems,
council's property com-
mittee recommended closing
the museum while
authorizing the Goderich
building and fire inspector to
check it and determine what
must be done before it can be
reopened.
At the same time, council
deferred action on a request
from the Township of
Usborne asking that the .
county investigate the option
of locating the museum at a
different site instead of
repairing the . existing
building,
The township suggested
that locating the museum on
a main •highway in the
county would give it better
exposure both to tourists and
residents.

already asked for the
opinions of all municipalities
in the county, with the.
responses to be considered
by a museum committee.
In response to a question
from Goderich Reeve Harry
Worsell on whether or not the
museum would reopen,
David Johnston told him it
will be closed "until the
county makes the
renovations to bring it up to
the standards of the building
and fire codes." '
Asked whether the town or
the county would be
responsible for the repairs,
Mr. Johnston said .his
committed Would ask for an
evaluation and that the
museum might open again:
The committee also has
instructed Ray Scotchmer;
museum curator, to review
the value of the artifacts
with a view to increasing the
