Winners of turkeys were Darwin Rose., Lois Whittard, Jean McNeil, Reinhardt Bauer, Mrs. Bert Yuill, Velma; Stephenson, Helen Cardiff, Mike McCallum, Nancy Marks, Steve Switzer, John Simpson, Ken Moak, Bev Bentley and Donna Elliott. Other prize winners were: Marlene White, Merna Tunney, Kathy Graber, Pat Shaw, Jean Bewley, Margery Hartleib, Cheryl Ryan, Edna McLellan, Sheila Bauer and Darwin Rose. The next bingo is this Friday evening. r THE FOLK CHOIR from Sacred Heart Church in Wingham performed at last Thursday evening's Carol -Fest '84 held at the local high school. The Wingham Optimist Band contributed several Christmas December is busy at a local Legion BRUSSELS — The month of December is a busy one at Legion Branch 218. Last Saturday the Santa Claus parade was held and the Legion float came in second. The Legion pipe band also was involved. There still are two turkey bingos remaining before Christmas and they are this Friday evening and Dec. 21 and they start at 8 p.m. So if you haven't won your turkey yet, come out to the branch and try your luck. The Brussels Legion hosted a Zone C-1 dart tournament last Saturday with 20. teams competing. It was a photo finish as Kin- cardine did it to the local boys in the playoffs, leaving them in second place. The project at the front door has got underway with the installation of a set of outside lights, but there still is much work to be done. This month's general meeting will be Monday evening at 8:30. All members are urged to attend. Various organizations are holding Christmas parties at the Legion again this year, keeping the auditorium and the ladies of the auxiliary quite busy. The night of Dec. 29 should be lively as Harry Busby and his Crippled Ducks will be playing for a dance, starting at 9. A lunch will be served and everyone is welcome. Dessert tea opens UCW unit meeting Whitechurch --The United Church Women met last Wednesday at the home of Mrs. Agnes Farrier. All enjoyed a dessert tea before the meeting. The Least Coin and collection were received and the minutes of the -l'asf meeting read by the secretary, Mrs. Russell Chapman. She called the roll to which 13 members an- swered with a Christmas verse. A gift exchange then was held and each lady brought a "White Gift" for the Salvation Army, Mrs. Farrier led in prayer and Mrs. Sleightholm read the story of Christ's birth from Luke. "It Came Upon a Midnight Clear" was sung and Mrs. Farrier lit "a candle and told of Jesus' birth. Mrs. Sleightholm lit a candle for all the suffering people of the world and another for the hope_of the world that came to Bethlehem. Mrs. Muriel Thompson lit ateandle•f+ r the hungry, poor and friendless before Mrs. Farrier led in prayer. Candles then were lit for the tragedy of people of different races and colors and for all the poor and •oppressed children. Mrs. Sleightholm read a verse. Mrs. Farrier played the organ for the singing of, "Silent Night" and "Away in a Manger". She then gave a reading and closed the meet- ing with a prayer. DEATHS KITCHEN—Passed away at Hamilton on December 10, Harold B. Kitchen, dear husband of the former Isabella Robertson; loved father of Jane and her husband, William Barrett, of Woodstock and Dr. John Kitchen and his wife Liliane of Rochester, New York; dear grandfather of David and Kathryn Barrett and brother of Bernice Freele, Strathroy. Mr. Kitchen was a former resident of Wingham where he was employed by the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce. The funeral service was held today (Wednesday) with interment in Strathroy Cemetery. RINTOUL—Passed away at St. Joseph's Hospital, London, on Monday, December 10, William E. Rintoul of Whitechurch, aged 73 years. He was the beloved husband of the former Norma Caldwell; dear father of Neil of West Wawanosh, Mrs. Dave (Anne) Oberholtzer of Waterloo, Mrs, Harry (Donna) Gutoskie of Kitchener, Mrs. Gordon (Sharon) Campbell of Ancaster and Mrs. Leonard (Doris) Robinson of East Wawanosh. There are 11 grandchildren. He was the brother of Gordon Rintoul of Whitechurch, Mrs. Ralph (Euphemia) Cameron of Lucknow and Mrs. Jim (Freda) Reid of Florida. He was predeceased by his parents, Alex and Jean Rintoul, a brother Jack and two sisters, Margaret and Luella. Funeral service was conducted today (Wednesday) at two favorites to the program as well as the $500 realized to the building project at the Wingham and District Hospital. Miss Musgrove remembered for her warmth, generosity For many friends and associates of the town of Wingham, the passing of Miss Earnscliffe Musgrove of 270 Centre Street, Wingham, marked the end of an era. This native of Wingham and longtime resident of the town, who maintained a stately elegant Victoyigne hortne) on Centre Str et, yet was always in tune with modern times, passed away Saturday, December 8, at Wingham and District Hospital in her 94th year. Death followed a lengthy illness. A daughter of the late Armstrong H. Musgrove and Margaret Simpson, Miss Musgrove received her education in Wingham elementary and secondary schools, then attended Toronto Normal School. On graduation: she taught in elementary schools in Toronto, Fordwich and Edmonton, Alberta. Miss Musgrove went on to graduate from the first class in physiotherapy . at Hart House, University of Toronto, during World War I. Following graduation, she worked in physical therapy in Halifax Veterans' o'cioca at 1'he McBurney Funeral Home, Wingham, Rev. Paul L. Mills of- ficiating. Interment will follow in Greenhill Cemetery, Lucknow. SOTHERAN, Mrs. Marjorie Sothern of Fordwich, passed away in Listowel Memorial Hospital De- cember 2, 1984. Mrs. Sotheran was the former Marjorie Slater, daughter of the late Mr. and 'Mrs. John C. (Margaret Mor- row) Slater, Strathroy, Ontario. Her husband Crosby W. Sotheran prede- ceased her in 1975. Mrs. Sotheran was a member of Fordwich United Church, a life member of Fordwich United Church Women, a life member of Fordwich Women's Institute, mem- ber of, Fordwich Senior Citizens and held an office in the Zone. She was an Honorary Director of the Howick Fair Board. Dear Mother of Rosemary, Mrs. William Magill of London, Ontario; Grandmother of James Campbell and Great -Grandmother of Sa- mantha, all of London. Predeceased by one daughter Shirley (1958) and one brother Frank Sla- ter (1976) . The body rested at M. L. Watts Funeral Home, Gorrie, Ontario, with funeral service and commital conducted by Rev. D. Marzec and Rev, T. Fleetham. Spring inter- ment in Fordwich Cerne- r„ Hospital. She then went to Buffalo, New York, later to Rochester, but returned to Buffalo to establish the Physical Therapy Depart- ment at the Buffalo General Hospital. She later did physio with arthritic patients in their homes in Buffalo. Upon retirement in November of 1963, Miss Musgrove returned to her birthplace to live. She was a member of the Wingham United Church and a volunteer worker with the local branch of the Canadian Cancer Society and the Auxiliary to the local hospital. Miss • Musgrove was predeceased by her two sisters, Mrs. W. H. (Ethel) Greer of Wingham and Mrs. Stan (Edna) Smith of Guelph; and by a dear cousin, Miss Annie H. Henry, with whom she resided for many years. Friends paid their respects at The McBurney Funeral Home where Miss Musgrove rested until Monday when funeral service was con- ducted at two o'clock by Rev. J. Rea Grant. Final resting place will be Wingham Cemetery. Jim Fitch dies in hospv, was a native of Turnberry A native of ,Turnberry Township and longtime resident of this area, James Arthur Fitch of 45 Alfred Street East, Wingham, passed away Monday, December 3, in Wingham and District Hospital. He was 88 years old and death followed a lengthy illness. Mr. Fitch was born in Turnberry on August 25, 1896, a son of the late John Fitch and Isabella Wylie, After receiving his education at a Howick Township school, he went to Western Canada where he farmed and operated a steam engine for threshing. On December 24, 1932, he married the former Clara Isabelle Collins of Kincardine Township in Watrous, Saskatchewan, and they returned to this area in 1937. He .worked for Huron County Highways Depart- ment for 23 years, operating a crusher and snowplow. He retired in 1969. Mrs. Fitch survives to mourn Jim's passing, as do two daughters, Mrs. Donald (Donna) King of Fordwich and Mrs. William (Maxine) Hanna, Waterloo. There are four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; five sisters, Mrs. Clark (Kate) Renwick of Brookhaven, Mrs, Bernard (Mary) Keemar, Toronto, Mrs. Harvey (Tena) McDermitt, Southampton, Mrs. Jack (Alma) Pitcher, Listowel, and Mrs. Lloyd (Ethel) Montgomery, Wingham; and one brother, Jack Fitch, RR 1, Wroxeter. The late Jim Fitch rested at The McBurney Funeral Horne, Wingham, where friends and relatives paid their respects until Wed- nesday, December 5, when funeral service was con- ducted at two o'clock by Rev. J. Rea Grant of Wingham United Church of which deceased was a member. Final resting place is Wroxeter Cemetery. Pallbearers were Jim Renwick, Alvin Fitch, Bill Hanna, Peter King, Mark Brunarski and Tom Som- merville. Flowers were carried by Pat Brunarski and Debbie Sommerville. Herbert Braniff dies in hospital Herbert Gordon Braniff of. 'Wroxeter., formerly of Kitchener, passed aw4iy December 6 at Listow4- Memorial Hospital in. his 75th year. Left to mourn his passing are his wife Edith; a daughter Marilyn and her husband, Lionel Curtle of Shelburne; son Frederick and his wife Freda of Oak- ville; six grandchildren; two sisters, Kathleen of Kit- chener and Patricia, Dun- das; and two brothers, William of Rosedale and Dennis, Waterloo. A private family service was held December 9 at the Gorrie Chapel of M. L. Watts Funeral Homes, Rev. S. Bates officiating. Interment followed in Wroxeter Cemetery.
