Video takes
viewers behind
the barn door
What exactly goes ,on
behind the barn door?
People who are not familiar
with contemporary farming
practices or who do not know
any farmers personally
might think farmers are still
milking their cows by hand
and piling hay with a pitch-
fork.
To set the record straight,
the Ontario Federation of
Agriculture presents
"Behind the Barn Door", a
13 -minute video introducing
non -farmers to farm
. practices and practitioners
of the 1980s. The film is
narrated by Gordie Tapp,
host of the television
program "Hee Haw". Mr.
Tapp has been making
people laugh with what he
calls his "bucolic buf-
foonery" for years, and in
the video he gives his
viewers a different look at
"agricultural engineers".
• The video takes the viewer
on a tour of four impressive
farm operations, whose
owners discuss subjects
ranging from the impact of
foreign competition on the
domestic food industry and
tle extensive use of com-
puters in the barn to the need
for day care in rural Ontario.
The video is available in
half-inch VHS and Beta and
three-quarter inch, To
borrow a copy, write to the
Ontario Federation of
Agriculture Suite 500, 491
Eglinton Avenue West,
Toronto, M5N 3A2, or call
