Hydro corridor
not yet settled
The Huron County Feder-
ation of Agriculture wants to
work with Huron County
Council on the hydro line
corridor issue.
Federation President
Doug Garniss of RR 4, Wing -
ham, along with other feder-
ation members, approached
county council at its Novem-
ber session.
WardenTom Cunningham
assured the federation that
council has not taken any
stand regarding the hydro
line corridor.
It was stated that Ontario
Hydro has contacted some
individual l'nunicipalities to
make presentations.
Former federation presi-
dent, Tony McQuail of RR 1,
Lucknow, said the hydro line
process has been going on for
a number of years.
Two years ago, the Con-
solidated Hearings Board,
appointed by the Province of
Ontario after months o)f
hearings in StratforkS
adopted a hydro line corridor
alternative presented by a
group of farmers. Mr.
McQuail was the spokesman
for that group.
The proposal called for im-
proving and installing trans-
mission lines from the Bruce
Nuclear Power Development
to Essa, near Barrie, and a
route along the 401. Hydro's
preferred route would have
taken a transmission line
right throu; uron County.
Mr. M;euail said if the
route pro..,s ed by the farm
groups ha rr 't some merit,
the hearings board wouldn't
have accepted it.
However, another court
has turned down the route
saying residents in the af-
fected areas weren't ade-
quately notified ,of the hear-
ings board process.
Ontario Hydro -is now baek
to square one.
Mr. McQuail said Hydro
will be holding an informa-
tion meeting on Saturday,
Nov. 24 at the Western
Lamplighter Inn on Welling-
ton Road in London. The
meetings starts at 9:30 p.m.
