llow they i.'ing! How clearly they send their glad notes across
the land! How wonderfully they Stir the hearts with a new joy'..
Every time',” they ring, the old story, forever new, is retold to an
eager, listening world, For 1900 years the clear notes of Christmas.
bells have been ringing out. Away in the distance the song of angels
joins' the ni.asic and the darkness of many centuries breaks away
and -a new gladness fills the human heart.
"Joy to the world, the Lord is come,
Let earth receive her King,
Let every heart prepare Hiin room,
And heaven and nature Sing.

E'Very'/bell that rings " carries a message; Frequently it is a
niessage01 time. Sometimes it is a summons, for boys and girls to
clrop their playground games ,and go back to the discipline of the
school froom, 'Sometimes it is the warning of danger and peril.
Soinetiniea it is the announcement of celebration and triumph.
Listen to ,tile , Christmas bells! They are ringing out over sea
and land. They:are.tolliug a message :to the ''great wide world and
echoing its melody among the stars. , ()lose your eyess'a moment and
shut out the dull monotony, of worldly rush and noise and listen to
the magic;.inusicwhile the bells of heaven peal out their majestic
chimes—
"`His name shall be called WONDERFUL." The life of Jesus
has always been a \yonder. His birth was wondertu.l. His miracles
were wonderful. We "e stand. in wondering admiration before his
matchless character.' This righteoue one of..Heaven sits down to
eat with puhlioans and sinners and the world, marvels. He looses
the compassion of his soul to bring the ministry of healing grace to
broken lives, and we stand amazed. He empties the wells of kindness
from his great heart,to make a troubled world glad and we rejoice
with unspeakable joy. Oh Bells of 'Christmas!! break the silence
of the"world again and ring out your themes of, joy—
"Ring out, ye crystal spheres,
Once bless our human ears,
(If ye have power to touch our senses so:)
And let your silver chime .
Move in melodious time."
And let the'base of heaven's deep organ blow,
Aid with your manifold harmony
Make up full consort to the angelic symphony."
"His name shall -be -called COUNCILLOR"—How much° confu-
sion there is in, life!- How many blind: streets we enter! And how+
frequently we -Cone to the crossroads, and do not know whether to
turn to the right.or'to the left. Thenin the midst of these strange
uncertainties aCvoice of grace and wisdom speaks -"I am the Way."
"Let not your hearts be troubled." "Seek and ye shall find." He
unfolds" the •?n.ysteries `of• life and with.the hand of .Loving authority
- "throws- opon;the gates of a new life. Ring out again, ye merry

"He Shall' be called• the EVERLASTING. FATHER." What a
glorious Christmas/tiding is this! No longer are we hopeless creat-
ures of the. vile dust. We are the children of the, Father. We be-
long to the heavenly family. The Father loves his 'children: The
Father bestows the gifts of his love upon his family...: The children

"He shall be called the PRINCE of. PEACE." •. To all, those
weary with the burdens of life, Jesus' says: ---Into the great world at
war with sin, He projected the flag ofeternal truce, red with his
own blood, and cried Peace, Peace, forevermore!" The song of the
herald angels is a song of peace. The joy of the new world is peace,
through good will. Now is the time then to do away with strife.
Let us not -carry into the new year the enmities -and animosities
that have made :our lives bitter in the past, hut- let us catch again
the melody ,of.. the, Christmas Bells-
-"I heard the bells on Christmas. Day,
Their old familiar carols play,
And wild and sweet,

Of peace o Dearth •, good will to men."
Ring on, 0 Bells of Christmas! Never let your music die. Let
its message' ring on forever and reach every human heart.
"Like 'circles,: widening. round
Upon a blue, clear river,
Orb after orb, the wondrous sound
'Is echoed on forever:
Glory to God on high, on earth be peace,
•
And love towards 'men of love—
