The Wingham Advance-Times, 1984-10-31, Page 8Page 8 ----The Wingham Advance -Times, Oct. 31, 1984 Crothers speak at Three Ms meeting The Three Ms Club of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church in Wingham met last Wednesday evening at 8, o'clock in the church's Upper Room. The meeting was hosted by Mr. and Mrs. Morley Bushell, Irlma Kepler and Hazel Hardie. A prayer opened the meet- ing, followed brscripture and meditation. Georgeina and Dave Crothers, the guest speak- ers, were introduced and they showed two films taken in Wingham in 1947. This was enjoyed by everyone and brought back many happy memories to all present. A reading, "A Boy's Essay of an Enemy" was given -by James Wilson and a quiz on hidden books of the Bible was conducted by Mrs, Kapler. Mrs. Bushell told a few details about her meeting with Queen Elizabeth and Prince Phillip recently when she presented the Queen with her bicentennial quilt. The program closed with the singing of "Will Your Anchor Hold?". The president, Shirley Donaldson, conducted the business portion of the meeting. There were 22 members and five visitors present. The minutes and correspondence were read by the secretary. A delicious lunch was served by the hostesses and a social hour was spent. Lucky prize winners of fruit trays were Mr. Ren- zetti, Mrs. Carter, Bertha Waito, Mr. Vanstone and Mrs. Campbell. The hosts Were Sybil and Tony Straker and Mary McGlynn. The residents and staff express sympathy to the family of the late Roily Ballagh, a Brookhaven resident who passed away last week. Bev Domm held a sing-. along last Wednesday. A warm welcome is ex- tended to Mac Shaw, who now is residing at Brookhaven. Residents arrived at the Hallowe'en Friendship Tea to a dining room decorated with ghosts, balloons, bats and a pumpkin. A ghost and jack -o -lantern tree were featured and table favors were decorated in orange netting. Those residents present were: Pearl Hogg, Viola Campbell, Margaret Curtis, Margaret Carter, Isabel Kerr, Annie Moffatt, Annie Baker, Florence Holmes, Florence Langridge, Muriel Dowson, Caroline Missere, Catherine Renwick, Edna Casemore, Minnie Linklater, Bertha Waito, Ellen Walker, Gus Renzetti, Morley Pet- teplace, Ernest -Uhler and Sam Vanstone. Guests at the tea were Ann MacGowan and Alice Rollings. • Sybil Straker asked the blessing and refreshments WI tours industries FORDWICH — Members of the Fordwich Women's Institute travelled to Listowel recently where they toured two well-known companies, learning what takes , place there. before. their products reach the supermarket shelf and furni- ture showroom. At Campbell Soup Listowel Ltd., a tour guide showed the ladies a large container of potato flakes, then took them to a place where chicken, turkey and beef are prepared for dinners and to the spice room, where only one person knows the seasonings used. Beef is cooked in bags and large microwave ovens defrost whatever is needed for the next day. The members saw TV dinners being assembled by machines and workers and noted the sanitary conditions of the work area. They also visited the Pepperidge Farms division where they viRw, Pd ; ; 'doge . mixing machines and large ovens where cakes are baked. • The group also visited Malcolm's furniture plant, one of the oldest firms in the country and well, known for its fine furniture which is shipped all over Canada. There are 80 employees and 100 per cent Canadian wood is used. Seen were several stages of the work in producing this fine furniture and the ladies learned that this wood must not be_ treated with any furniture polish, but mild detergent and warm water, rubbing with the grain of the wood and polishing with a soft, dry cloth. The annual bake, craft sale and tea was held last Friday afternoon in the church basement and drew a good number of buyers and lookers. —MRS. A successful bazaar and tea was held last Wednesday evening in the McIntosh United Church and spon- sored by the UCW. We are sorry to report that Mrs. Louise Marritt is a patient in_ hospital and all wish her a speedy recovery. Mrs. Helen Eadiespent the weekend in London with Mr. and Mrs. Neil Eadie and family. A, delicious lamb smorgasbord, sponsored by Renwick Polled Dorset Farms, was. held last Friday evening in the complex. The event, which was well at- tended, was catered to by Groups Two and Five, under the convenership of Grace Mulvey and 'Alice Mawhin- ney. Following the supper Cheryl Busby showed slides of Sweden and told of her year there as an exchange student. Mildred Dickson, Audrey Fitch and Doris Hays at- tended the Southern Ontario Ladies' Curling Association annual meeting for this district last week in Exeter. Visitors on the weekend with Walter and Mary Renwick were Laurie Campbell of Edmonton and Richard Tanner of Petrolia. ' A number of ladies from Belmore traveled to Exeter last week to visit with Dorothy Finkbeiner, a former Belmore resident. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Jeffrey of Airdrie, Alberta, are visiting relatives and friends here for the next couple of weeks. • Mr. and Mrs. Brian Jef- fray entertained family members" on Sunday. following the christening of their daughter Lisa Melanie at Knox Presbyterian Church, Belmore.
