Simpson is honored at bridal shower BRUSSELS — A bridal shower was held last Mon- day evening at the United Church to honor Joan Simpson on herupcoming marriage to Don Deitner. Alice Brothers and Freida Pipe played piano duets while the ladies were arriving. A short program followed with Marie Mc- Taggart introducing the guests of honor. Nelva Scott acted out one of her hilarious diet stories and Betty • and Julie Campbell sang "On the Wings of a Dove", accom-' ' panied by Mrs. Brothers on the paino. Sharon Blake read a' poem and Mrs. Brothers and Mrs. Pipe played two more duets. Barbara McCutcheon read the address and the gifts were presented to the, bride- to-be. Miss Simpson then thanked the ladies fittingly and invited everyone to her reception. Fitzgerald Photo marriage on Sept. 22 at the Benmiller United Church. The ceremony was per- formed by Rev. The groom's nieces, Jennifer and Krista Gibson of Wroxeter, were the flower girls. • Candelabras decorated Sacred Heart Church, Wingham, on the evening of Sept. 28 at 7 when Edna Brophy of Wingham and Michael Stewart of Gorrie exchanged wedding vows before Rev. Stan Soltysik. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Brophy of Wingham, while the groom's parents are Mr. and Mrs. Roy Stewart, Gorrie. Mrs. Nora Moffatt, Wroxeter, was the organist Two functions to honor Tapps Mr. and Mrs. Earle Tapp of Minnie Street in Wingham were honored at two separate functions recently. The Tapps, residents of Wingham for 18 years, will be moving to Wallaceburg next week. Mrs. Pearl Shiell and Ann Wilson were the conveners. The meeting opened with Mrs. Helen McBurney in the chair. Mrs. Hazel Hardie read . the minutes and reported on the Huron County rally which was hosted by the Maitland Institute in Wingham. The meeting was then turned over to the conveners. Mrs, Shiell read three poems and Mrs. Bray had the motto, "Our duty , as a homemaker", which was very well given. '.Given in marriage by her father, the bride chose a floor -length gown with in- tricate lace embroidery and a delicate accent of pearls at the bodice and featuring two tiers of chiffon. She wore a hat embroidered with Venetian lace and a pearl accent, as well as a fingertip veil. She carried a cascading bouquet of red silk roses and whit baby carnations. Loise Harnack of Kit- chener was the maid of honor and bridesmaids Mary Ann Walters of Teeswater, Rita and Jackie Brophy of Wingham and Laurel Jaunzemis of Harriston, all were gowned in dresses of aqua chiffon with lace in- serts. They wore matching veil -covered hats and carried silk bouquets of white daisies and aqua carnations. Little Jenny Haines of Deep River, a niece of the bride, was flower girl. She wore a floor -length dress of white Swiss -dot material and carried a basket of red silk roses and white baby car- nations. Michael Watson of Brus- sels was the best man and guests were ushered by Jo- seph Brophy of Wingham and Kevin, Jamie and Peter Stewart, all of Gorrie. The groom's nephew, Derek Downing of Guelph, was the ring bearer. The Teeswater Com- munity Centre was tastefully decorated with candelabras, for the wedding reception. Guests attended from Kit- e:tener, Alliston, Walkerton, Teeswater, Toronto, Gorrie, Brussels, London, Oshawa, Listowel, Ayton, Atwood, Guelph, Hanover and Deep River. The bride's mother greeted guests in a pink georgette ,dress, a pink hat and corsage and navy ac- cessories, while the groom's mother chose a dress of turquoise crepe with a grey hat and accessories. She also wore a corsage'of pink roses, accented by grey pussy willow. For a wedding trip through- out Southern Ontario, the bride chose a dusty rose, goeorgette dress with grey accessories and a corsage of pink roses. Mr. and Mrs. Stewart will reside in London. Rev. Cy Marzec per- formed the ceremony. Miss Arlene Boyd of Atwood, friend of the bride, provided II organ music and ac- companied the soloist, Larry Schneider of West Lorne, the bride's cousin. Before the processional, he sang "Let It Be Me" and "God Bless this Marriage", and "The Wedding Benediction" during the signing of the register. Mr. and' -Mrs. George Noble and Ken visited Mr. and Mrs. Harry Linden and David and Kelly of London over the weekend. Last Sunday they were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Aaron Fisher of Clinton. Mrs. Velma Jacques of Summerland, B.C., is visiting Mr .'and Mrs. Wesley Gallaway,. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Zimmerman and other relatives in the area. Mr. and Mrs. James Austin, Jeffrey and Derek of Elmira, visited Sunday with Mrs. William Austin. on Empire lines. The gown's high neckline featured a sheer round yoke trimmed with embroidery and seed pearls and similar trim enhanced the long bishop sleeves. The full skirt fell into a chapel train with lace ruffles trimmed with satin ribbon. Her fingertip veil was held by a wide mohair hat trimmed with satin and - pearls and she carried a cascade bouquet of burgun- dy and pink roses, white tiger lilies and green fern. Matron of nonor was Mrs. Susan Stephenson of RR 1, Ethel, friend of the bride, and the other bridal at- tendants were Miss Laurie Schneider of ' Fordwich and the groom's sister, Mrs. Mary Lou Rowley of Ford- wich. They wore identical full-length gowns of burgundy organza with sheer laced jackets which buttoned at the waist to form cummerbunds. Best man ' was Donald Rutten of Brussels, brother of the groom, and guests were ushered by Henry Needham, Kincardine, cousin of the groom, and Bryan Schneider, Fordwich, brother of the bride. Assisting the ushers were Mark Kennedy, cousin of the bride, and Christian Feld- skov, nephew of the groom. Following the ceremony, a reception was held at the Howick Community Centre which was decorated with wedding ornaments in shades of burgundy and pink. A three -tiered wedding cake trimmed with burgun- dy roses centered the head table. For their honeymoon, Mr. and Mrs. Rutten enjoyed a motor vacation to the East Coast. Mr. and Mrs. Kevin Raven and Lisa of Etobicoke spent last Saturday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Melville Dennis. Mr. and Mrs. George Brown visited with Mr. and Mrs. Norman Mulloy of Paris on Sunday. Helen Gibson of Toronto spent the weekend with her brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Gibson. Mr. and Mrs. Alan Un- derwood of Newmarket, Wes Underwood and Murray Underwood of Wingham visited. Mrs. Bert Hubbard last Thursday.
