By Louisa Rush
Dear Louisa:
I just love your picture
pattern No. 7451 of a lion in a
garden, and I plan on em-.
broidering two, one each for
my grandsons' bedrooms. I
think they are most unusual.
My problem now is to get the
design onto the linen. Have
. you any suggestions as to
how I can do this?

Your linen or fabric for
this pattern should measure
eighteen inches by twenty-
seven inches. I find it easiest
to have a piece of wood, or
extra strong' cardboard the
same size, on which to mount
the fabric. By this I mean,
thumb tack the material
right side uppermost, so that
it is taut and firm on which to
work.
Make a small mark at the
edge at theoentre point of
each sale as a guideline.
Place a sheet of dress-
maker's carbon paper- this
is by far the best to use, over
the area where the design is
to appear.
Now take your drawing of
the design which is on leaflet
No. 7451, and place this over
the carbon paper, line up the
centre marks with the folds
of the leaflet, and using a few
thumb tacks to hold in place.
Proceed to lightly trace
the design carefully with a
pencil, and making sure that
all parts of the design are
traced.
You are now ready to
begin the embroidery. Use a
round embroidery frame to
hold the section of the fabric
taut as you work. These
round frames are most help-
ful as they prevent the work
from puckering. There are
some now on the market that
have a little clamp with
which you can attach it to a
table. This leaves both hands
free. Try working 'w th'the
right hand above the work
and the left hand below.
You'll find you will be able to
embroider much quicker,
but be sure to wear a thimble
ori both hands though!
Seen the other day at an
exhibition of handicrafts, 'a
small rug made. entirely of
pompons. Use afairlyheavy
canvas as a base, and make
the pompons as full as
possible. I believe there is a
commercial, gadget on the
market for making them
uniformly. Stitch the pom-
pons to .the canvas as close
as possible. You can make a
design, or just use the colors
to form a pattern. Presto! a
bedside mat in less than no
time!

Everyone knows babies'
tiny things are such a plea-
sure , to knit. This little
jacket is for ao year -to
eighteen month size, when
they are sitting up. The
jacket is buttoned all the way
down, making it a very cosy
garment for the Fall.days.
