Dear Mr. Gore:
I<read your very interest-
ing article regarding "Pro-
moted, Placed or Repeat-
ed."
I would like to know what
the word "Transferred"
really denotes. The Vice -
Principal and Principal of
my "daughter's" school re-
fuse to use the word Pro-
moted on her report card.
card.
As you can see from the
enclosed copies of the report
cards one being my daughter
Elizabeth and two of her
classmates, she should have
either been promoted to
Grade 8 or failed. They in-
formed me that they could
not fail her because her
English subjects are a pass.
The word "Transferred"
would be used because of my
decision that she remain in
the French Immersion Pro-
gram should she run into dif-
ficulty and fail the Grade 8
Program the fault would be
mine.
I am really confused as to
what the criteria for
promotion is. I have already
contacted the Waterloo
County Board of Education
regarding the use of the word
"Transferred" and talked to
various people in the school
system who informed me
that it is no longer used. I
have also been told that it is
up to the individual Principal
as to whether a student
passes or fails.
Your comments on the
above would be most enlight-
ening. This is a most frus-
trating situation for a single
parent who is concerned
with her daughter's educa-
tion and welfare. I hestitate
to think I may have made the
wrong decision regarding
her future.
For the reader's benefit,
following is a comparison of

Dear Mrs. M.T.,
I have contacted the area
superintendent in your
school area and was in-
formed that you may appeal
the principal's decision. It is
my opinion from the report
cards you sent me that your
daughter should • have been
promoted as were the other
two students. However, my
recommended course of
action is to do nothing. Your
daughter is in the next grade
with new teachers. Hope-
fully, these' teachers will be
more objective with respect
to your daughter and more
consistent across the class
with respect to grading. 'I
have forwarded to you by
personal mail the name and
phone number of the super-
intendent if you wish to
appeal.
It is apparent from your
letter that you care and have

Next year, you will have the
opportunity to'again assess
the situation and your
decision will be based on that

my column to the attention of
Mrs. M.T. in Kitchener,
thank you very much. I look

In short, it is not Caesar,
but Caesar's wife, who is,
and must be seen to be,
beyond reproach. I think
she'll make 'a dandy Prime
Minister.
Not that Mila doesn't have
her faults. She doesn't have a
'strong jaw, like Flora
Macdonald, Maureen Mc-
teer, and her consort. But
because of that, she has an
impish grin, which none of
the others can achieve, and
which turns people on, if they
are turned on by impish
grins.
She speaks too many
languages, at least three,
which is anathema to those
ordinary Canadians Ed B. is
always talking about. One is
enough for them, two is sus-
picious, and three is down-
right dangerous.
She is not exactly a great

But that's in her favor, in
these days of feminism,
when a sweater is something
to keep you warm, rather
than reveal.
Another thing going
against her is the size of the
niajority. Huge majorities
are more dangerous for'' the
winner than small minori-
ties.
About a third of Canadians
who voted Tory are going to
be shouting in the pubs:
