October named
agri-food month
October has been named .
Agri -Food Month and will be
the focus of a number of
food -related celebrations in
Ontario. The celebrations
are being sponsored by the
Ministry of Agriculture and
Food°in conjunction with the
Ontario Federation of
Agriculture and several
producer boards.
The month will feature
winery and farm tours, a
harvest festival at Toronto's
Harbourfront and a Harvest
Home celebration at the
Ontario Agricultural Muse-
um at Milton.
"It's a month-long celebra-
tion with a serious message:
that the agriculture and food
industry puts food on the
table in more ways than
one," Agriculture and Food
Minister Dennis Timbrell
said. "It means $12.6 billion
a year to Ontario's economy.
It directly influences the
livlihood of one in five
workers in the province. It's
number two inexport sales,
second only to cars and car
parts."
