Hospital, of Mrs. John
Sutherland Hayes of 551
Cedar Street, Wingham.
Though she had not been in
good health for the last ten
years, her death followed a
brief illness at the age of 69
years.
Born in Seaham, County
Durham, England, and
educated in England, Mrs.
Hayes was the former
Beatrice Jane Cowley. She
was born April 17, 1915, to the
late Silas Cowley and
Dorothy Hartley. She was a
public health nurse and
served as a midwifes in
London, England, at Queen
Charlotte Hospital.
She married Jack Hayes in
St. Thomas Sarum, Salis-
bury, . Wiltshire, England,
and they came to Canada in
1946, making their home in
Toronto. They came to Wing -
ham in 1961 and Mr. Hayes
has been a businessman on
Josephine Street since that
time.
Left to mourn her passing,
Arthur Balfour Brears dies
in hospital in his 79th year
Arthur Balfour Brears of
RR 1, Fordwich, passed
away Thursday, September
27, at Listowel Memorial
Hospital in his 79th year.
A son of the late William
Brears and Sarah Spence,
Mr. Brears is survived by his
wife, the former Emily
Susan Ruth Sothern; four
sons, Bill of Saskatchewan,
Art and Morley of Fordwich
and Earl of Walkerton; four
daughters, Mrs. Harvey
(Irene) Kaufman of Clifford,
Mrs. Harry (Betty) Fischer,
Mrs. Gerrard (Joan) Stockie
and Mrs. Robert (Jean)
Bignell, all of Kitchener; 20
grandchildren and four
great-grandchildren. Also
surviving are one sister,
Elizabeth Berlett of
Listowel, and two brothers,
Spence of Harriston and
Borden, Fordwich.
Friends paid their respects
at the Gorrie Chapel of M. L.
Watts Funeral Homes until
Sunday when service was
conducted at two o'clock by
Rev. William Gray. Inter-
ment followed in Fordwich
Cemetery.
Pallbearers were six
grandsons, Randy and
Dennis Kaufman, Jim
Stockie, Robbie Bignell,
Paul and Carman Brears.
Four grandchildren, Laurie,
Michelle, Karen and Sean,
carried floral tributes.
In Mr. Brears' memory,
donations may be directed to
the Heart and Stroke
Foundation.
Former. resident of Wingham
dies at Huronview, Clinton
A former resident of East
Wawanosh Township and the
town of Wingham, Mrs.
Stuart McBurney, passed
away at Huronview, Clinton,
on Tuesday, September 25, in
her 91st year.
Mrs. McBurney, the
former Sarah Elizabeth
(Sadie) King, was born in
Turnberry Township on
October 21, 1893, a daughter 1946.

three sisters and
brothers. She received
elementary schooling at
Holmes' School and on
September 2, 1914, married
Mr. McBurney at her,..
parents' home. They farmed
in East Wawanosh Township
until retiring to Wingham in ""

(Janice) Benninger of
Wingham;., three sons, Philip

predeceased by one sister,
Ann Oxley of Toronto.
The late Mrs. Jack Hayes
rested at The McBurney
Funeral Home, Wingham,
until Monday when removal
was made to St. Paul's
Anglican Church.. where
funeral service was con-
ducted at two o'clock by Rev.
Douglas Madge, here
minister. Interment followed
in Wingham Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Fred
Snow, Fred McGee, Lorne
McDonald, Barry Wenger,
Lee Vance and William Keil.
Her floral tributes were
carried by three grand-
children, Craig, Angela and
Gerald.

the Bluevale Women's
Institute will be held October
10 at 2 p.m. in the Bluevale
Community Hall, with Mrs.
Leona Armstrong, reeve of
Grey Township, as guest
speaker. All ladies of the
community are invited.

year. The former Verna
Muriel Brewer, daughter
of the late Duncan Brewer
and Gladys Rowland, she
leaves to mourn her
passing one daughter,
Mrs. Fred (Audrey) Duck-
ett, two granddaughters
and one grandson, all of
Flesherton; one sister,
Elizabeth Gower of Wing -
ham, and two brothers,
Melvin Jermyn, Bluevale,
and Donald Duncan, Kit-
chener. She was prede-
ceased by a sister Dorothy
of Listowel and one broth-
er, Jack of Bluevale. Fu-
neral service was held at
the Currie Funeral Home,
Chatsworth, with inter-
ment in Desboro Ceme-
tery.
