A veteran 9f World War I
and resilient of the Wingham
area for several decades,
Walter J. Simmonds, passed
away at Guelph General
Hospital on Monday, Sep-
tember 17, in his 87th year.
Mr. Simmonds was born in
Sussex, England, on June 28,
1898, a son of the late
Thomas} Simmonds and
Emma Godfrey. He received
his childhood education in
England and came to
Canada in 1912 with his
family who settled in the
Wingham area. He fought in
World War I with the 46th
Canadian Infantry Battalion
and was 5llsabled. He was
honorably discharged on
June 6, 1919. When he
returned, he farmed for
some years, then was a mail
carrier until his retirement
at age 65. He had lived in
Fergus in recent years after
Gorrie resident

Grey General Hospital,
Markdale, on September 19,
Mrs. Vernon L. Barlow of
Gorrie, in her 85th year.
The' former Sarah Irene
Currier, Mrs.. Barlow was
predeceased by her husband
in 1965. ' She is survived by
two daughters, Mrs. Charles
(Irene) Kirk of Sarnia and
Mrs. Myrtle Smith, Owen.

Clifford and Geoffrey, all of
Markdale, Sinclair of
Brussel$, Homer, Listowel,
Howard of Edmonton,
Lawrence of Ethel, and
Grant, Mississauga; 29

grandchildren. She was pre-
deceased by one daughter,
Mrs. Ralph (Marion) Moy-
er; one grandchild; one
great-grandchild; two sis-
ters and one brother.

Mrs. Colin (Helen)
McIntosh and Jack Adair,
both of ' Molesworth, and
Joan Boulianne of London.
She was predeceased by
her parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Victor Adair, and one
brother. Funeral service
was held at the R. Madill
Funeral Home, Mount
Brydges, with interment in
Longwood Cemetery,
Melbourne.

Heffren; and seven great-
grandchildren, Diana Fisch-

and Jesse Heffren. He was
predeceased by two broth-
ers, Edgar and Harry, and
two sisters, Jane and Rose,
X11 of whom passed away in
England. A sister, Mrs. Al-
fred (Mary) Pullen of Wing -
ham, is also deceased.

rested at The McBurney
Funeral Home, Wingham,
where complete funeral and
committal service was
conducted Thursday at 1:30
by Rev. Douglas Madge of
St. Paul's Anglican Church
where deceased was a
member. Final resting place
is Wingham Cemetery.
