er, and the defendants were auto-
'mobile agents at. the time the note
is alleged to have been drawn up.

Mrs, John Chambers has return-
ed to her home at Chiselhurst after
visiting her sister, Mss. A. Rycknian.
Mrs. Jas. Wanless left for her
home in Duluth on Wednesday after
visiting her mother, Mrs. L. Hardy.
Rev. S. Anderson, of Clinton, has
accepted an _invitation to become
pastor of the Forest Methodist
church.
The Exeter Canning Factory re-
cently purchased. from Mr. Hy.' El -
worthy forty five acres of land on
Huron street, the price being 35,000.
Mr. H. Trevethick, of Saskatche-
wan, who visited in this community
has just returned from.a trip to the
cit. country in charge of some cattle

Rev. M. J. and ' Mrs. Wilson left
Tuesday by auto to visit at Guelph
and Hamilton. Mr. Wilson will con-
duct services in the Methodist church
at Burlington next Sunday.
Mrs. Daniel Coward, of Usborne,
underwent an operation for trouble
behind the ear in Victoria hospital,
London, last week. Mr. Coward and
son Stanley were down to see her on
Sunday.
Mr. Wm. Kernick gave a picnic to
a number of the little folk of town
on Saturday last when he took them
to the sugar bush for a taffying-off
party. Tlk,e youngesters had a very
lolly tune.
Dry grass' at the rear of Powell's
Bazaar caught fire Tuesday from a
bonfire and spread for several rods.
A hoard fence caught fire and the
flames got close to a stable. Several
men were nearby and put the fire
out.
Mrs. J. S. Harvey was in Toronto
last week attending the graduation
exercises at Convocation Hall. To-
gether with. her son Mr. Linden Har-
vey, she visited for a few days with
relatives at Elora, both returning to
Exeter the latter part of the week.
Mrs. J. Jarrott, of Hills Green,
formerly of Exeter, has returned
home from London, after having a
sinall tumor removed from the side
of her face by Dr. McGillicuddy. She
also visited her sister, Mrs. M.
Smith who has been very ill at Mrs.
Jones'.
Mr. W. A. Turnbull, secretary of
the Usborne and Hibbert Mutual
Fire Insurance Co, has moved to
town from the Thames• Road and is
occupying the house ' he purchased
on William St. vacated by Mr. D.
Russell. 'We welcome Mr. and Mrs.
Turnbull and daughter to town.
A heifer belonging to J'as.' Shapton
of Stephen went mad on Friday last
and created some excitement. The
animal ran to Town: on Huron street
and chased , several of the citizens.
It ran into a horse on 'which Earl
Shapton was riding and in turn the
horse kicked the heifer. It finally
ran into a field belonging to Mr. Jack
Snell and after cooling down was
taken home:
