Exeter gets
BIAloan
EXETER - The Business
Improvement Area in
Exeter has received
tentative approval from
the ministry of housing
for a loan of $150,000 for
the proposed Main Street
revitalization program.
However that news is
not entirely good for the
BIA, since the proposed
loan could put the town
over its borrowing limits
and with this in mind the
Ontario Municipal Board
(OMB) could_ veto ac-
ceptance of the loan.
The loan, which is
provided at an annual
interest rate of only one
per cent, would provide
the funds for developing
parkettes at the "library -
town hall complex, the
PUC and the town's
administration offices.
It had previously been
agreed by Exeter
councils that they would
repay $50,000 of the loan,
while the BIA would be
responsible for the other
$100,000.
However at this point,
the main question
remains whether the
OMB will permit the town
to borrow the $150,000 in
view of Ithe present debt
load.
