Finds
minute
book
BY JOAN
VAN DEN'BROECK
Despite the inevitable
confusion associated with
the first day of school,
more than 30 members of
the Maple ll.eaf Chapter
IODE met at the country
home of Mrs. N. McHolm
on Tuesday, September 4.
Regent, Mrs. W.
Garrow presided and
contained within the
Executive Reports was
correspondence.rereived
by Mrs. H. Murphy from
Mrs. E. Beacom whom,
we assume, was the fifth
Regent off the Chapter
which was formed in 1917.
Mrs. Beacom, who now
resides in Toronto, has
found the minute book for
the Chapter from the
years 1919 - 1925.
Arrangements are being
made by Mrs. Murphy to
bring the book back to
Goderich. The members
are looking forward with
great interest to
retrieving this historical
material and learning
more about the interests
and priorities of the
Chapter during these
early years.
Mrs. W.J. M. Egener
reported on the
Children's Art Exhibit
held in the spring. Most
encouraging was the
response of the teachers
to this 'Year of the Child'
project which resulted in
the display of 1,200
exhibits from area
schools.
Every -year • at this
time, the knitting and
sewing projects of the
members are collected to
be baled and shipped to
the north. Members who
have not jet handed in
their nursery bags are
requested to bring them
to the next meeting.
Upcoming events in-
clude a Gala Theatre

available at $6.50. each
until October 5 from Mrs:
H. Bettger.
Member, Mrs. J.
Wallace, gave a brief
presentation on the status
of the Livery Theatre
. project.
On display were the
prizes being offered in the
current 'draw for the
theatre to be held on
Thanksgiving weekend,
which include an oil
painting by Lou Shuman,
a drawing by Mona
Mulhern, line drawings
by ' Mike Scott and

group through which
activities and fund-
raising events Will be
channelled: Members
look forward with in-
, terest to the formation of

overall success of the
theatre -project.
