The minutes were accepted as read by the clerk, Mrs. Arva Machan. Mrs. Eleanor Bradnock was asked to continue correspondence with Auburn, Michigan and to ask • them to accept the friendship off Auburn, Ontario and to become a Sister City. R9ad business was "discussed as were plans to renovate the library room and the town hall. LIONS CLUB The Auburn and District Lions Club met for their first meeting of the year in the Auburn Community Memorial hall commencing with a dinner served by the Anglican Church Women. There were 15 members present. Lion President . Bill Robertson chairetf his first meeting. The minutes were approved as read by the secretary, Lion Bob' Worsell. The treasurer, Lion Jim Schneider, gave the financial statements.. A baseball committee was formed with Lion Clare Millian as chair- man and Lion Bill Sproul and Lion Al Luna assisting. Plans for next year include the re- seeding of the outfield at the ball diamond and construction of fences and screens. The correspond"ence was read and the members voted to donate $50 to the Woodstock Relief Fund. ,The.,. meeting was• ad journed on motion of Lion Jim Schneider and Lion Bud Chamney. BRIDAL SHOWER A bridal shower was held .for• Heather Pat- terson at to home of Mrs. Tom Cunningham last Thursday evening, September 6, Corsages of roses were pinned on Heather, the bride-to-be, Mrs. Virginia Patterson, the bride's mother and Mrs. Joe Verwey, the mother -in- law -to -be, by Janice McClinchey, Anita Hallam and Linda Cunningham. Mrs. Jim Schneider read a story and each person put an ending to it. Brenda Ball had a cake contest and. Mrs. Keith Lapp had a bridal alphabet contest. An address of congratulations was read. by ,Linda Cunningham and after the gifts were' opened, Heather thanked her friends. Lunch was served by Mrs. Elliott Lapp, Mrs. Carmen Gross and Mrs. Tom Cunningham. SOCIAL NEWS Mrs. Pearl Rollinson of Toronto visited last weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Emerson Rodger. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Fishleigh and Mr. and Mrs. Millard. McKenzie, all of Sarum, visited with Mr. and Mrs. Davies last Thursday. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Mutch and Mrs. J. Winner of the Auburn and District Lions Club draw last Wednesday was Bill Hollenbeck of 177 Lighthouse Street, Goderich. The community is pleased to report that William J. Craig is home after being a patient in Alexandra Marine and General hospital, Goderich for three weeks. Mrs. Bert Allen of Agincourt visited last week with Mrs. Beth. Lansing. Mrs. Gordon Wall of Wingham visited relatives in the village last Saturday. Mr. and Mrs... George Walker, Mrs. C. Nethery and daughter; Mary Isabel of Belgrave visited last Thursday with Mr. and Mrs.. Tom Johnston and Miss Laura Phillips. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Craig of Ltacan spent the weekend with his -father Mr. William J. Craig. Congratulations to Pastor and Mrs. Alfred Fry of Kincardine who recently celebrated their 58th wedding an- niversary. Mr. and M s.. Tom Johnston and Mss' Laura Phillips were uests last Wednesda of Mrs. Lorne McDonald of Seaforth. Mrs. Florence Millian was a guest at the 80th birthday party for Mrs. Pearl Watson last week. The community is sorry ' to report that William Rodger is a patient in St. Joseph's Hospital, London. He is wished a speedy reccvery. Mrs. Thomas Haggitt visited last Wednesday with Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Haggitt and sons at Exeter. Several from here attended 'the Huron County Historical Society meeting held last Wed- nesday evening at Belgrave Women's Institute Hall and heard Mr. Ross Proctor tell about the history of a small community called Bodmin which is no more. Mr. and Mrs. Keith Machan returned home on the weekend from a three week trip in Western Canada. 50th ANNIVERSARY Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. George Hallam of Blyth who recently celebrated their 50th. wedding anniversary. A nephew, Ray Hallam, Britannia Road, Goderich held Open House for their uncle and aunt when over 70 relatives and friends called to • extend congratulations. 4-H NEWS Canvas and yarn were Auburn news Eleanor B.radnock, correspondent the topics of discussion at the first meeting of Auburn 2, 4-H club. The meeting was held on September 1 at the home of Mrs. Tom Cun- ningham. It was opened 596.7595 with the 4-H pledge. At this meeting, the election of officers was held. After voting, it was decided that Annette ,Losereit will be president and Pam Losereit will be R.K.
