sure is on top of things.
Upon reading the
"Children , Have Rights
Too" essays written by
area youngsters and
appearing in last week's
edition of the paper, she
noticed that essayist,
John Empson of Victoria
School said he and his
friends would like a
skateboard park. So, she
has taken this matter up
with the Recreation
Board.

Messages carried by
balloons seem to be a
popular form of com-
munictions these days.
In the second section of
this paper, you can read
about the balloon
message which six-year-
old Christine Straughan
found near the Sheap-
parton Creek from
Charlotte, Michigan.
On Sunday, Jim and
Pat Martin and family of
Goderich, were "'boating
about 3.:45 p.m when they
noticed a balloon near the
breakwall in Goderich
Harbor. They moved
their boat closer and Paul
Martin got out to pick up
the balloon ('which was
still blown ¶up). It had a
plastic bag attatched to it
by string and ,in it was a
message from Mrs. Le
Roy Krueger of dons
Evangelical' Lutheran
Church in Harbour
Beach, Michigan, about
40. miles away, across the
lake. It had only been
launched at 9:30 a.m.lhat
morning.
Finding the balloon was
rather exciting, says
Mrs. Martin who. plans to
reply immediately to
Mrs. Krueger.
Be on the look• out for
other messages in
balloons in this area.

The new gift shop at
Alexandra Marine and
General Hospital is a real
credit to the hospital and
to the ladies' auxiliary. It
is a walk-in shop about
three times larger than
the previous one. It is
located in the hospital
waiting room.
James 0. Magee drew
up the plans for the shop
and hospital employees
under the supervision of
Don Green did the work.
Sales from the shop have
already paid for the
expansion.
The shop is manned by
auxiliary volunteers six
days a week from 2 to 4
p.m. and from 7 to 8:30
p.m. Profit from the shop
is donated to a general
fund of the ladies'
auxiliary which in turn
pays for hospital
equipment, etc.
With profits from the
shop and other projects,
the auxiliary has pur-
chased six new pieces of
equipment for the
hospital this year
already. The auxiliary
also gives bursaries to
nursing students and
money to purchase books
for the nurses library at
the hospital.
The auxiliary will hold
its first meeting of the fall
on September 17 and all
