They played the Varna team last Thursday evening, August 30 but lost. This 'was the game that eliminated the Squirts from the playoffs because they lost in two games out of three. The team have done exceptionally well and the team members and their coaches deserve credit. The Varna team won the trophy. SCHOOL NEWS This is the time of year when the new school term starts and children are "now back to school, some just "starting in kin- dergarten, others finding a new adventure as "they start high school, and others attending college and university. Donna Kellestine of Sunset Beach is attending Conestoga College at Guelph, this being" her 'third and final year for the studies she chose. • • Harold Kloeze has returned to Veterinary College at Guelph. This is his second year in these studies while his brother John Kloeze has started his first year at the University of Guelph. Heather Clark will. be taking a course at Sheridan College irf Oak- ville. Andrew Stoll will be in his second year at Fanshawe College, London and Bruce Stoll `will be teaching at Fanshawe College in London. Wanda Linner 'of Saltford will be attending Althouse College in London this year. The guest book was in the charge of Miss Carol Seers. - Corsages were pinned on the bride-to-be, her mother, Mrs. William Empey and her sis,ler,, Miss, $arbara Empey. Mrs. Jack Armstrong was chairman and welcomed all. Miss Marilyn Wightman played a piano solo, The Home Coming. A sing- song was led by Mrs. Donald Haines with Mrs. Norman Wightman at the piano. Mrs. Fred Armstrong had a kitchen bingo contest and Mrs. Ray Hanna was the winner. Mrs. Norman Wightman and Miss Marilyn Wightman played a piano duet, Melody in Waltz Time. ' Mrs. Donald Sprung gave a reading, Mr. Levisky Goes to a Wedding. A relay. of peeling an apple and eating was done by two teams. The winning team members were Faye Seers, Shelley Worsell, Gail Dobie and Cathy Beyershergen. The other team members were Barbara Empey, Maureen Bean, Irene Millian and Ethel Ball. Mrs. Richard Hawley gave two readings, The Little Things and The Greatest Gift. Marie and her mother and sister were escorted to the platfor t and MEs. Gerald McDowell read an address of congratulations to Marie. Gifts were carried in by Lorie Armstrong, Donna Lynn Armstrong and. Dominique Jacobson. Marie thanked everyone for their gifts and all joined in singing For She's a Jolly Good Fellow. Lunch was served.- WALKERBURN CLUB The Walketburn Club held its annual family picnic at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ted Flunking on the evening of August 29. The younger crowd enjoyed swimming in the pool followed by sports organized by Mrs. Tom Cunningham and Mrs. Ronald Gross. An enjoyable evening was brought to a close with a smorgasbord supper. Plans were made to hold the next meetingon Tuesday, September 25 at 2 p.m. at the home of Mrs. Stewart Ball. Mrs. Mary Bere visited Mr. and Mrs. Ian Hulley (nee Debbie Vella) at Londesboro on Sunday. Debbie's brother and sister; Cathy and Bob Vella, from Nova Scotia, are visiting the Hulleys and their mother, Mrs. Joy Vella at Seaforth for a few days. Some of the Centennial Committees are reporting on their work to date. Randy Kerr, chairman of the bar 'committee, reports that Lab- atts have agreed to the setting up of the beer tent for the birthday celebrations and supplying trophies for vari- ous events throughout the four days. He also reports more renovations are to be made to the hall, hopefully by October. A Wintario grant has given the go ahead for enlarging the hall but the addition to the hall is to be left until 1981 because of a busy 1980. DUNGANNON UNITED CHURCH Mr. George Cowan began his ministry in Dungannon with a sermon entitled, "First Things First" The choir sang, "Lily .of the Valley", led by the organist, Mrs. Jean Elliott. Mr. Cowan welcomed all visitors and those home for the holiday weekend. He ex- pressed pleasure or himself and Mrs. Cowanbeing in Dungannon and req(iested to be let know the ways he can best serve the congregation.
