The Goderich Sailing
Club held a series of
sailing events on the
Labour Day Weekend to
wind up its racing

In the "Cock off the
Walk" race, held Friday
evening, the Junior crew
member of each boat was
promoted to captain, and
took the helm for the
race. Ken Dawson's
friend, Tracy Boone,
skippered the Satin Doll
to first place, while Ann
Smith placed a close
second on her Dad's boat,
El Viento. Bill McGarrity
had his daughter take the
helm on Kitty, and she
sailed a great race, for
her first time at the tiller,
to come in third. -
The major weekend
races consisted of • the
"Round -up. Regatta",
sponsored by George and
Ruth Robertson, in which
8 keel boats and three
Lasers competed.
Saturday's race was very
slow, with almost no
wind, and most of the _
boats took over 3 hours to
complete it. There was no
lack of wind on Sunday,
however! The morning
race had the sailors

worthy opposition in all

After an opening round
3-2 loss to .Port Lambton,
Lakeport defeated Lieury
6-3 and West Corners 2-1.
Canada Company won
their first games with a 9-
4 .victory over. Ingersoll
and a 7-0 win over Exeter
before they bowed with a
2-1 loss to Wingham.

The McGee Pontiacs
won their first game with
a 5-1 win over Blyth but
were eliminated by
Walton in the second
round, 5-3.
The Goderich Juniors
also participated in the
tourney and lost both
their games.
Motocross to be
held in Walton
Walton will be the
scene of exciting
motocross racing on
September 8 and 9.. On
Saturday', Sept. 8 there
will be schoolboy and
junior racing and Sunday
the experts and seniors
will be fighting for a part
of the $2,000 in prize
money in the "Molson
Ontario Motocross
..,Championship 79'.
The race is presented
by . the Maitland Dirt
Riders and sanctioned by
the CanadianMotorcycle
Association. The track is
located on the farm of
Kris Lee and is probably
one of the most spe•e„
tacular natural terrain
tracks' in Canada. .400
riders and 4,000 spec-
tators are expected.
Local riders include

Lassaline and Steven
Boyce of Goderich. John,
Hugo and " Charlie
Xaaskant, Randy
Marriage and Wayne and
Danny Ryerson from

racing.
The Sunday expert race
features most of the best
riders, in Canada. A large
contingent from the
North Eastern States will
also be present.
