There were 78 entries representing clubs from all over Western Ontario. Bradley came out on top, with Will Tory of Homestead Country Club, Varney, taking low net for the field. The Maitland Tennis Club held their club cham- pionships last weekend with the finals concluding Monday. Pat Conlon combined with Claudia Hill to win the mixed doubles and teamed with brother, Ronan, to win the mens doubles. Ronan also won the under J8 singles, while Jim Fritzley won the under 16 titleand Peter Conlon, under 14.1111argaret Hill and Marg Conlon won the Ladies doubles and Conlon took the singles title. (photo by Dave Muffitt) Stothers reaches slowpitch final Stothers Bricklayers advanced to'the Goderich Mens Slowpitch League finals with ^a semi-final series win over the , Firemen. Stothers swept the best - of -five semi-final series in three straight games. After opening the series with two wins Stothers recorded a 10-9 come - from -behind victory Tuesday night with a four run rally in the bottorn'of the seventh inning. The Firemen advanced to the semi=final with a victory over the Teachers in the quarter final. Stothers defeated the Oldtimers" in their quarter final match. Stothers will now play the winner of the W and D Coyotes and Paper Leafs semi-final. - -- The Coyotes took a one - game Lead in the best -of - five semi-final series with a 15-14 win in the first game. The Leafs then rallied for two straight wins, 15-5 and 21-7 to take a 2-1 lead in the series. The -fourth game of the series will be played Thursday. Skating club elects new executive The Goderich Figure Skating Club would like to announce their new executive for the 1979-80 skating season. Theyare as follows: President - Betty Harris; Past President - Catherine Boddy; Vice Pres..- Alice Huyck; Secretary - June Horton, Treasurer - Jan Fisher; Membership - Linda Hruden; Ways an.d Means - Sharlene Bean assisted by Doreen Leeson; Publicity - Diana Glousher; Private. Lessons - Alan Barger assisted by Alice Huyck; Saturday National Test Chairman - June Horton; Wednesday National Test Chairman - Penny Crawford assisted by` Linda, Hruden; Power Skating Chairman - Shirley Woodard,; Music Chairman - Mary Cook; Phone Committee - Sue 'Traynor; Carnival Chairman - Eunice Dechert and Social Chairman - Sharlene Bean. We would also like to mention Eleanor Williams and /Ellen Jeffrey our Prope, ty and Bursary Fund Committee and Ellen Jeffrey will also be assisting the Carnival Chairman. The new executive held a meeting on August 23 at the Recreation Office. Registration dates were set at this meeting. Registration will he held in the auditorium of the Goderich Community Centre on Sept. 14 from 6:30 to 9 p.Xn. and again on Sept. 15 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Please note ' when' registering the following categories; Wednesday's skating involves the first four badges "learning to skate", these are taught Nation Wide, and they are ^called "National Skating Tests". The children involved in these first four badges are divided into groups of different badge levels and preschoolers are taught in different groups also. Also on Wednesdays our Power Skating Session is Meld and there are a variety of badges involved and they are taught in their different groups. Saturday skaters are the Junior, Inter- mediate, and Senior skaters of the club. They are taught in group sessions. This year they will be skating from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday' skaters are the private lesson skaters and will skate from 5-9 p.m. See our advertisement on registration for the fees. Only half is required on registration day and balance due on December 1,1979. We are pleased that our two professionals Mrs. Francis Brady of Bayfield and Mr. Rick Pettit of Goderich will be working with us again this season. Other business brought up at the meetingwas the fall dance. Itis to be held in the Auditorium. of the Goderich Community Centre, on Sept. 29. Come on out and enjoy yourself at our Hard Times Dance and listen to the music of The Sound Express. Tickets . are available at registration. The next meeting will be held on Sept. 20. Other local winners were Paul Johnson, Don MacEwan, and John Hanly in "A" flight. "B" flight winners were Bill Hanly, Rick Rawson, Dave Cornish, Fred Jewell and Ralph Kingswell, while Pat Conlon and Roy Lomas took "C" flight honours. longest drive was won by Al Worgan and Harold Parker of Fanshawe was closest to the pin on No-. 1. The Niagara Falls Amateur Open was held on August 24 with a large field of very classy golfers from the Banana Belt. Two of our Maitland golfers participated and were good enough to .were the prize list: Paul Johnson tied for second spot with a 76 and Karl Campbell made a good showing by taking second place in his flight. Nice ng, f&doyvs , Men's night had a pretty good turn out as usual and the first six winners were: Hugh Hanly, Russ Gemmill, John Kane, John Stringer, Jack Hoffmeyer and Tim Elliott. There were a couple of draw winners as well. Maitland played host to the Juniors on August 22nd. Not too much in- formationis available, but Grog- Corey of Seaforth took the title, and Rob Huff of Maitland -was low net for the field. Holidays have in- tervened so this is a catch-up of ladles night winners. August 21 saw 35 ladies take to the links, which is a really good showing. First flight winners were Hazel Beaver, Ardith Brissette, Doris Paquette and Gerry Mquntford. In second flight Jean Knight and Verna Kane tied then Janet' Gemmill,, Sally MacEwan and Verna Jackson. The third flight went to Doreta Jackson, Lillian Kelly, Marg Evans, Kay Duncan and Joanne Jasper, while Joanne McCallum, Au -leen • Curry and_ Nonie Collier placed in fourth flight.° Hazel was closest to the pin on No. 1. Ladies Inter -Club final round was played on August 23 with 23 par- ticipating. Della Bedard of Sunset won'low 'gross for the day and the final standing of the series was Kincardine 781/2 points, Maitland 72 points and Sunset 53: points. These inter -club matches have been fun and are recommended to any lady golfer who is ner- vous about entering an invitational. Last Tuesday there were 28 ladies out and first flight winners were Sue White, Hazel Beaver and Maxine Martin. Ardith Brissette, Joan McDougall, Verna Kane and Jean Papernick were second' flight winners, while Marg Evans, Vern Frith and Eileen Beauchemin took third flight prizes. Tennis Championships were being played on the Labour Day Weekend and theresults will be written up by someone more knowledgeable about Tennis than I. Don't forget to sign up for the "Geritol Cup", a Seniors mixed Round Robin on Sunday, September 9th from 7:30 to 9:30 p.in. Pqartners will be chosen by a draw and entries should be in by Sep- tember 7th. • This seems to be the end of a rather lengthy report, except to remind golfers that Cham- pionship Day is just a week away for the ladies on Sept. 15 and the men on September 22nd. Again for the Ladies --the Owen Sound District Tournament will be held at Sunset on September 12th, so make your plans accordingly. 'age -ems scores Connie and Jack Gibbings combined for a point total of 115 to win the North-South section of play at the September 4 meeting of the Goderich Bridge Club. There were nine tables involved in a Mitchell game. Mary Donnelly and Eleanor Erskine were second with 901/2 points while Jo Berry and Edna Overholt were third with 861/2 points and Judy Thorup and Carol Williams settled for fourth spot with 841/2 points. Auleen Currie and Jean Papernick topped the East-West section with 1171/2 points while Barb Howe and Marian Lane were •second with.. 1061/2 points. The teams of John Donatis and John Wood and Tom Eadie and Audrey Tobin tied for third with 971/2 points.
