-BY CATH WOODEN
This is a handy dandy do's and
don'ts paste up on your fridge
guide for mothers who have sons or
daughters eagerly trotting off to
college next week, written by one
such daughter.
This guide is divided into two
sections: what to interfere in, and
what not to interfere in.
First on the positive side.
Mothers, feel free to purchase for
your offspring the basic necessities
of apartment or dorm living -
towels, sheets, a cosy comforter,
and maybe a bottle opener.
If you choose to let your son or
daughter take care of these
miscellaneous sundries, he -she
simply won't bother, and none of
ep you want that, right?
All you Mothers musn't hesitate
to -dive into the kitchen and prepare
several tins of baked munchies for
your loved one to tuck under his -
her arm for that. first devistating
• week away from home.
1)u 1 hear some grumbling out
there? Don't think you are being
taken advantage of. You all want to
feel needed, don't you?
:Vu‘A on the 'don't you dare' side.
III try to be tactful, but you Moms
till need to understand some things.
About living arrangements. You
really don't have to know, do you?
If you must ask your daughter who
she is sharing a house with, and she
rn wers, "Susan, Louisa, and
Rob," simply pretend Rob is a pet
goldfish. It's much simpler that
way.
And about the accommodations.
Silly questions like, "Why are you
packing bug killer?" serve no
useful purpose whatsoever. And so
what if your son has no dresser
drawers, or closet,... or bed. He'll
manage fine.
He probably had a reason for
choosing that place; for example,
reasonable rent. Ignore the beer
store on the corner.
About moving day. Don't expect

Marineland's , 5,000 seat Aqua Theatre, to meet

your son or daughter to carry any
more than his -her stereo equips
ment and blow dryer. It's not that
he -she doesn't trust you with his -
her prize possessions, It's just that
those are the only real necessities
of life to him -her and as long as
that stuff is moved in he -she is
happy.'
And another thing about the big
. move. If your son -daughter is
moving in ..with- friends, do not
under any circumstances open
cupboard doors or look under the
couch. Trust is the key word here.
Remember that when a funny
smell eminates from the ..kitchen. It
could very well be roast duck, you
know.
Just one more thing. Never never
kiss your kid good-bye in front of
his -her peers. It would mean good -
by forever to social acceptance. I
needn't add that a tissue for the
nose would also mean game over.
Add Mom, if you brush the hair
away from my face, I will not call
home on Sunday. So there. Just
keep those brownies and banana
loaves coming.
