In WOAA Bantam
Playoffs played last
week, Goderich defeated
Seaforth two games to
one to eliminate them
from the first round. ,
In Tuesday's game, the
Bluewater Internationals
had to come from behind
after Seaforth took a 4-2
lead, up to the seventh
inning. Then Goderich
went ahead with two in
the seventh and three in
the eighth.
Mike Chisholm was
Goderich's big batter for
the night having four hits
at five times at bat and
scoring three of their
runs.
Two hits each went to
Denis Kerr, Jeff
Denomme, Scott
MacDonald and Del
Bedard and one hit each
to Bill Hall and David
Gallow,.•
Scoring's the Inter-
nationals' other Tour runs
were Kerr, Hall, Gallow
and MacDonald.
Dennis Kerr went the
distance on the mound
having, seven strike -outs
and giving up five walks.
Friday night the
Internationals travelled
to Seaforth and fought a
tough battle losing 12-11
in ten innings. It was a
close match through the
whole game with
Seaforth having the edge
after most innings.
The Internationals tied
it up 11-11 in the ninth.
Mike Chisholm came
through leading the
Internationals again with
four for five at bats and
scoring three runs.
Next big hitter was
Kevin Adam§ with four
and three apiece went to
Denis Kerr and Gary
Abbott.
Two hits each went to
David Gallow and Jeff
Denomme; one each to
Bill Hale, Scott
MacDonald; and Del
Bedard.
Two runs each were
scored by Abbott,
MacDonald and
Denomme and one each
by Adams and Halle,
Goderich left 11 run-
ners on base. Denis Kerr
pitched a very strong
game striking out 13
batters and only giving
up two walks.
With the series tied 1-1,
Seaforth returned to
Goderich on Saturday
and were blown out of the
park by a score of 23-10.
Goderich never looked,
back after the first inning
• when the score was 1-1.
Their two big innings
were in the third and the
sixth when they scored 42
of their runs. Seaforth•
had no pitching which
gave the Internationals
the advantage from the
start.
Leading the hitting was
Chris Petrie with five and
scoring four runs,
followed by Kevin Adams
with four hits. Denis Kerr
had three hits and two

each went to David
Gallow, Bill Hall and
Gary Abbott; one apiece

The big scorers for the
game with three apiece
were Kerr, Gallow,
Chisholm Hall and
Abbott. Dan Durst scored
twice and Adams and
Denomme one each.

Internationals will be
continuing their playoffs
this week.
Error costs Electrics playoff
- Graharn.Electrics-were
one out away from a
berth in Industrial league
semi-finals last week but
an error changed all that.
The Electrics are now out
of the playoffs after
losing 6-4 to Gord's Sports
in the third game of the
teams' best of three
series Monday night.
The -Eleotrics drew
first blood in the final
game notching three runs
in the second inning. Gob
Hnatyk singled and used
an error on Fraser
Strong's hit to reach
second. One out later Bill
Wraith doubled to score
two and then scored
himself on Mark Ker-
nighan's single.
Gord's came to the
plate in the top of the
third and erased that lead
to make it a new game.
Lee Arbour singled and
's.cored from first on Jon"
Ginn's double. Dave
Scholl used an error to
reach first and scored on
a double by Dennis
Williamson.
The Electrics put men
on in two of the final four
innings but couldn't
deliver the key hit to
score any runners. Bruce
Bowman led off the third
with a double but was left
stranded. Bowman
singled in the fifth and
reached third on George
Klumper's double but
both were left on base._....
Gord's meanwhile
scored the winning run in
the sixth and added an
insurance marker int he
Motocross
hosted at
Hully Gully
Once again, Hully
Gully will be hosting
team motocross com-
petition• for the third
round of the Ontario
Team Championship
series.
The races are
scheduled for September
2, with heats beginning at
11:00 a.m. and finals
starting at 3:00.
Over 300 riders are
expected to compete in
School Boy, Junior,,
Senior and Expert
classes. In team stan-
dings to date, Cambridge.
is in the lead, with Sarnia,
London, and Simcoe
following close behind.

In the first Strong

moved down when
Hnatyk drew a walk and
both scored on a double
by Klumper. But tliat was
all the team could
manage.
Two men were left
stranded' in the second,
one in the third, one in the
fourth and two in the
, sixth.
In the meantime Gord's
had closed the gap to one
run. Dennis Williamson
doubled to start the
second and scored when
Bob Riehl delivered a two
out double.
Down one run in the
bottom of the seventh
oyotes, Stothers lead.
The Goderich Men's
Slowpitch league moved
into its semi-finals this
week with the Signal Star
Paper Leafs battline the
Coyotes and Stothers
taking on the Firemen.
The four teams are
locked in a best of five
series to decide a berth in
the league cham-
pionships.
Stothers and the
Coyotes each took a one
game lead in the semi-
finals. Stothers dumped
the 'Firemen 8-1 in their
opener while the Coyotes
edged the Paper Leafs 15-
14.
The Stothers-Firemen
series resumes Wed-
nesday night while the
Coyotes and Leafs play
their _second game
Thursday night.
To get to the second
round Stothers dumped
the Goderich Oldtimers
two straight in- a three
game ser;es while the
Leafs enjoyed similar
success against .Ticker's'
Brickers. The Coyotes
used three games to
knock off Meneset Park
and the Firemen needed
three . to get by the
Tachers.
Gord's send five men to
the plate using two hits
and a Graham error to
score two. Bob Riehl
came off the bench and
singled to start the inning
and Des Courtney moved
him around with a single.
Riehl scored on a
sacrifice and Klumper's
error allowed Courtney to
score the winning run.

An exciting weekend of
tennis was 'held at the
Maitland Country Club.
The men's and ladies'
doubles championships
and also the mixed
doubles crown were at
stake.
On Saturday Pat
Conlan. and Claudia Hill
played strong tennis to
defeat Bob Dick and
Allison Hollingworth 6-2,
6-1 in the final to win the
club championship.. Hill
and Conlon defeated Paul
Brown and Lucie Tur-
cotte 6-2, 2-6, 6-2 in a close
semi-final match.
In the opening round
Conlon and Hill defeated
Jim Costello and 'Lori
Hassall 6-3, 6-1. Costello
and Hassall won the
consolation' final with a
two set win over Bill
Shewfelt and ...Shelagh
Sully.
On Sunday Margaret
Hill and Margaret
Conlon, the defending
champions. retained their
ladies' doubles crown
with a hotly contested win
over the WOSSA
champions Lucie Tur-
cotte and Anne Marie
Murphy.
In the closest match of
the day, Conlon and Hill
won 7-6, 6-4 with all four
ladies playing sparkling
tennis. Conlon and Hill
advanced to the final with
wins over Claudia Hill
and Barbara Conlon and

In exciting men's
doubles action the Conlon
brothers, Pat and Ronan
won the Garb and Gear
title. They defeated Bob
Dick and Paul Brown in a
fine match°6-3, 5-7, 6-2 in
Legion Pee T4ees--dropopener 10-8
The Goderich Legion
Pee Wees dropped the
first game of their three
game set with Clinton in
the second round of
WOAA playoffs. " In a
game shortened due to
darkness Goderich fell
Iwo runs short losing 10-8.
Clinton used the middle
innings to push all eight
of their ' runs by a
lacklustre Goderich
defense. Both the pit-
ching and the defense
lacked the sparkle it had
when it carried Goderich
past Dashwood in the
first playoff round.
In the second inning
Clinton scored two runs
while going hitless at the
plate. George Coventry
and Bobby Ladd each
walked and both scored
on throwing errors.
• Goderich managed to
get one of those back in
the second. Paul Green
slapped a two out single,
stole two bases and
scored on a wild pitch.
Clinton hit through the
order in the top of the
third to move into an 8-1
lead after two and a -half
innings. Bob Dupee
walked moving around on
Wayne Smith's single.
Randy Marriage sin' -led,
Dupee home but
Goderich caught Dupee
trying to score. David
Wright doubled Marriage
across and scored on
single by Ladd. Darcy
Cote was hit by a pitch,
and Randy Keys slapped
a two run double before
Goderich got out of the
inning.
Goderich kept chipping
away and in the bottom of
the third pulled to within
two of Clinton.. Richard
Bedard walked to start
the inning but was caught
trying to steal. Daryl
Madge walked and
Robbie Gibbons moved.

Ball season is rapidly
drawing to an end and
with it comes the
beginning of hockey.
Hopefully ,the ice will
be in and ready for use
around the first week in
October.
Registration will be
held on Saturday, Sep-
tember 8 and again on
September 15, both days
from 9:00 a.m. to 12 noon.
Forms will be handed out
the first week of school.
This year, for your
child's protection, we are
asking that you note on
your registration form
any health problems your
child may have. This will
assist the coaches in their
job and hopefully avoid

year we are expecting as.
many if not more.
If you can help with
coaching, assisting or
with the organization in
general, please let us

There will be executive
members at the arena
both registration days.
We are in need of
volunteers and the more

the less time is invdlved
for any one person.
They are your boys on
the ice. Don't send him to
the arena, bring him and
get involved.

Canada Company
hammered Lakeport
Steeler pitching Sunday
night dumping the
Steelers 13-2 to win their
best of three playoff
series in Industrial
league action.
Canada Company used
an unearned run to edge
the Steelers 2-1 in the
series opener. The win
moves the Company into
the semi-finals against
French Dry Cleaners.
Dave McKenzie started
the game for the Steelers
facing the first four
batters. McKenzie gave
up three hits and four
runs before he was pulled
in favor of Wayne
Draper.
Rob McDonald used an
error to reach first base
and scored when Glen
Tigert ripped a double.
Bryan Bowman singled to
score Tigert and Tom
O'Keefe- slammed a two
run homer before the'
'Steelers made the pit-,
ching change. Draper
came in to face Stan
Doherty and Doherty
doubled. Draper went
right to work getting Bill
Durstand Mike Donnelly
to ground out and fanning
Terry Austin.
The Steelers came
right hack with two in the
bottom of the first to cut
the lead in half. Wayne
Draper used an error
with two out to reach
first. He moved around
on McKenzie's single and
Carmen Fielder tripled to
score both.
But that was all -the
Steelers were to get off
Stan Doherty. The
veteran hurler gave up
just one hit in the final
four innings holding the
Steelers off the hoard
while his club grabbed
seven more runs.
An error to the lead off
man in the second
allowed a runner to reach
-first but Doherty got the
next three batters to ,end
the inning. He faced only
10 batters in the final
three allowing a single to
Frank Hagan.
The Company bats
were anything but silent.
Combining 10 hits with
seven Steeler errors the
Company pushed nine
runs over for the win. ,
In the second Draper
issued a walk to
McDonald and Tigert
doubled him across.
In' the fourth the
Company unloaded.
Tigert and Bowman hit
back to back singles and
an error in right field
allowed the runners to
score and left O'Keefe
standing at second.
Doherty singled and
moved to secondon an
error scoring on Durst's
single. Mike Donnelly
Wok advantage of
another error to reach
first scoring on a single
by O'Keefe.
The Company added
their final two runs in the
fifth when Bowman
singled and O'Keefe and
Donnelly doubled,
Brian McKenzie was
the loser giving up three
hits, Draper, in relief,
gave up 10 hits and got to
strikeouts. Stan Doherty
fired a three hitter
striking out one for the
Win.
