The Goderich Signal-Star, 1979-08-30, Page 8PAGE 8 —GODERICH SIGNAL -STAR, THURSDAY, AUGUST 30, 1979 Twenty-two guests attend Mrs. Martha Million's 84th .birthday party at Bedford Twenty-two guests which included im- mediate family and friends were entertained at a special dinner at the Bedford Hotel on Saturday evening to honor Mrs. Martha Million on her 85th bir- thday. Mrs. Million's daughter Verna and husband Bill McCurdy of Stroud and their two sons Jan of Barrie and Allan of Burlington and their families planned this special birthday party for their mother and gran- dmother and entertained several relatives and friends to mark a special highlight in Mrs. Million's life. Present for the dinner besides the honored guest was daughter Mrs. and Mr. Bill McCurdy, their son Jan and his wife and three children, Shannon, Derek and Megan • of Barrie and son Allan and his wife and two children, Patrick and Scott of Burlington; a nephew Mr. and Mrs. Wes Smith and a niece Mrs. Mar- jorie Brooks all of Ripley; a long time friend and former neighbor • wheh living ih Colborne; Mrs. Bessie Moore of Goderich and other friehds, Mrs. Gordon Smith, Mrs. Agnes Mugford, Mr. and. ,Mrs. Wm. Mugford of Goderich and Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Kaitting of RR 5 Goderich. The tables were at- tractively decorated with flowers" and a special floral table centre for the honored guest who also received two beautiful corsages and other gifts and cards and a beautiful family ring, a gift from her immediate family. A birthday celebration never seems complete without a cake and after the main coursean at- tractively decorated cake complete with candles `was presented and served -while all sang "Happy Birthday". Mrs.' Million thanked all for coming and making this birthday one of the best. All then chatted and recalled many happy events in their contact with Mrs. Million and daughter Verna dating back to when Mrs. Million farmed with her husband Ed. in Colborne Township and retiring to Goderich about 1940. After a few years her husband passed away and she has lived in Goderich ever since where she enjoys an active normal life. They returned by plane on Friday to .their home in Alberta. A three -wee'k's' holiday in California was really- something eallysomething special with perfect weather, beautiful scenery and so much to see and enjoy and will long be remembered by four ladies Mary Morris' of Goderich, Buelah Long, Adelaide Feagan and Marg Jewell of:Colborne who have just returned home from a holiday at San Jose, California. Mrs. Hume Clutton, RR 5, Goderich, has returned home from a most en- joyable, trip to Regina where she attended the wedding of her grand- daughter, Laura. ' CELEBRATE 80TH BIRTHDAY On Saturday, August 25, a family. gathering was held at the home of •Wilma and Grant Chisholm, Lucknow to celebrate Mrs. Pearl Watson's 80th birthday. Mrs. Watson is Wilma Chisholm's mother. All enjoyed playing darts, ball, a dip in the pool or a friendly visit, and later, a well laden smorgasbord. Mrs. Watson thanked all for coming and making this 80th birthday a very memorable o'ne and for the lovely gifts which she will cherish. Mrs. Watson's many friends join in extending best, wishes for her 80th birthday and for many more. SOFTBALL The, finals in softball are still on. The Squirt Boys' Benmiller A team played iin the. finals in Varna Monday evening. The Varna tear. won with a score of 17-6: This is the first of the finals best two out of three and the next game will be Thursday night at Benmiller if favourable weather.
