Barber arrived at ,Goderich harbor light for salt on August 22 from Alpian, Michigan and cleared harbor the same day for Greenbay, Wisconsin. The Algosoo arrived at, Goderich harbor light for salt on August 25 from Sarnia and cleared harbor the next day for Three Rivers, Quebec. The Franquelin arrived at Goderich harbor from Thunder Bay with grain on August 23 and cleared. harbor the next day light for Toledo. The Black River arrived at Goderich harbor with grain- from Thunder Bay on August 25 and cleared harbor light for Port Stanley on August 27: • The E.B. They lock it up. One of the cells at the Goderich OPP detachment is full of the stuff, all neatly stacked against walls, laying on the floor and suspended on string. The stuff was found growing in a cultivated field near Exeter and was seized. Because of cramped conditions in that detachment the marijuana is being stored in Goderich. Ptilice say investigation into the seizure is still being done and wouldn't release much detail except to say the plot was highly cultivated and the crop was estimated at $16,000 value on the street. Officers in (he Goderich detachment have fans working in the cell block to ease the odour which they say is'a lot like rotting alfalfa. (photo by Jeff Seddon) Several building permits approved by Township Ten building permits Ten building permits were approved by Goderich Township Council when it ,znet in regular session on August 20. These permits were requested by Jean Oakes for a cottage addition; Mrs. M. Talbot for a cottage; Holden. Farms for a driving shed; Ray Wise to demolish a house and build a driving shed; K. Van Den Heuvel for a granary; H. McCullough for a steel shed; Ray Cox to demolish a shed; K. Gyapjas for a shed and J. Tebbutt fora silo. A request for a building permit by Fred Schilbe for a mobile home was held by council pending Health Unit approval.. Ruth Van der Meer was present at the , council meetino. �., a.a����.. meeting to discuss severing 10 acres from lot 29, concession . 12,. No motions were recorded`' regarding this matter. John Cox, Brad Pryde and Bob Storey. were present at the council meeting to discuss a subdividers agreement for •tot 27, concession 11. No motions were recorded. Ray Cox and Dave Hemingway were present to discuss the severing of part of lot 28, concession 7. No motions were recorded. Mr. Beyer and Mr. Janicek were present to. discuss their develop- ment property and easements. No motions were recorded. Council- passed a motion that the township continue with the county tree planting program on the basis that the county pay 50 per cent, the township 25 per cent and the owner 25 per cent. In a written report C.P. Corbett suggested three methods of action which the township might take. in dealing with the Yeo - Van der Waal drain extension request. The clerk was instructed to contact Mr. Corbett regarding the status of his report before con- tacting the affected people. Mr. Whitwoth, on behalf of the Blue Water Bea ®h Association, requested action. of council on dog control and roads. Council in- structed the clerk to reply to Mr. Whitwoth's requests pointing out that the..,. township' intends to close the roadway in question; the road. being so close to the top of the ravine bank that it is unsafe to permit a road grader on the road; and that the bylaw en- forcement officer, acting on advice from the OPP, requested that registered letters be sent to. Mr. Moore, Mr. McPherson and Mr. Finlayson regarding their dogs and that a copy of the dog control bylaw be en- closed. Tile drain loans were requested by Barry Wilson for lot 20 Huron Road and John Rodges for lot 100 Maitland concession. These were filed with the other ap- plications until a policy can be established for distributing the township quota. Six tenders for loading and hauling on township roads were opened and the tender 'of J. Adams pas accepted by council pending MTC approval. Council passed a motion that Mrs. • A. Porter be appointed to fill out ,-the balance of J. Fritzley's term of office. on , the township Recreation Committee. Accounts totalling more than • $25,000 were ordered paid by council.
