Club to hold
Abbott regatta
BY D.R. BUNDY
The Goderich Sailing
Club is expecting about a
dozen boats to compete in
next weekend's •Third
Annual Abbott 22
Regatta, to be held off the
Goderich Harbour.
This regatta is for one
particular tupe of sailing
craft, the 22 foot sloop,
manufactured by Bill
Abbott of Sarnia. In the
first of these regattas,
held in 1977, the builder
himself brought a boat up
from Sarnia, launched it
and rigged it just prior to
the first race, and sailed
• away with the trophy he
himself had donated for -
the event.
Last year, a visiting
boat from Bayfield,
• owned by Elizabeth
Gi-v-e-n, took the trophy in
thethree-race event.
Registration for ---the
." regatta will take place
Friday evening, July
13th, at Snug Harbour.
A Skippers meeting will
be held at 0930 Saturday;
with the first race
scheduled fta- 1030. A
the final Sunday, mor-
ning. A so-CINI—ectent is
planned for ,Saturday
evening,and the wind-up
barbecue and awards
presentation will be held
at the Robarts cottage
Sunday afternoon.
In last week's club
racing, the weather was
warm and sunny, but the
winds a bit light for our
liking. Sunday afternoon's
race was trancelled due to
lack of wind. The results
of the morning § race are
as follows: IN THE
MORC CLASS: First:
"Satin Doll" (Dawson)
1:29:51; Second:
"Tantalus II"- (James)

"Obsession'' (McGill)
1 :38 :24, Fourth:
"Cherries Aweigh"
(Robarts) 1:42:18.
In the Dinghy class,
Dave Parsons squeeked a
22 second victory over
Dave Smith, .with Mark
Taylor coming third. We •
