Sailing instruction offered by Huron School
Once again this sum-
mer the Huron Sailing
School, in co-operation
with the Goderich Sailing
Club, will offer three
levels of supervised
sailing instruction.
The sailing school
received -a grant from the
Ministry of Culture and
Recreation and levels. 1,2
and 3 of the Canadian
Yachting Association
standards will be taught
to anyone from the age of
nine by certified in-
structors.
Sailing enthusiasts will
have the use of boats,
hfejackets,and manuals
and certificates and
badges are offered.
Instruction includes
basic knowledge of boats,,
rigging, knots and
weather. Instruction in
both the junior and "adult
SPORTS
level will begin the first of
July and continue
through the summer.
Adult sailing in-
struction will be held
Tuesday and Thursday
evenings and race `clinics
for all ages will be held
Monday evenings.
The junior instruction
program will be con-
ducted on petrels and
lasers in three levels.
Level 1 deals with basic
boating, recreational
sailing and rigging
knowledge. Level 2 offers
instruction and skills on
Graham first in Dunlop

Graham Electric have
_found themselves in an
unfamiliar position in the
Dunlop Division' of the
Industrial Fastball
. League.,They're leading.
After just five games
the Electrics have racked
up an enviable recordof
three wins, one loss and
one tie to lead the division
by a single point over
•Gords Sports.
Graham moved into
first place this week with
two victories, a 1-0 win
over French, Sunday and
an 8-4 victory over Little
Bowl, Monday.
Against French,
Graham scored the only
run John Verway needed
as he blanked the
Cleaners on a fine one -
hitter to record his first
win of the season.
The only French hit
came in the third inning
when Jim McCarthy led
off with a double and
reached third on an error.
But Verway got out of the
jam striking out Rob
Standen and getting Ron
Klages and Bill Gallow to
ground out.
Graham struck for four
hits off losing pitcher Don
McWhinney, . two for
extra bases.
Graham took ad-
vantage of one of their
few opportunities in the
fourth inning as Fraser
Strong nailed a two -out
double and scored on a
follow up double by Steve
Haggitt. Haggitt was
thrown out at third trying
to stretch the hit into a
double.
Mark iternighan was
the games top batter with
two hits in three trips to
the plate. He singled in
the first inning and again
in the sixth.
Graham nailed down
their third win of the
season Monday doubling
Little Bowl 8-4.
The Electrics com-
bined eight hits with five
Little Bowl errors to
score three runs' in both
the first 4nd third innings
and singles in the fourth
and fifth innings.
George Klumper, Steve
Haggitt and Bill Wraith
had two hits„ apiece for
Graham. Haggitt's hits
went for extra bases as he
doubled in two runs in the
first inning and tripled in
the third to score two
more. Klumper scored
three runs.
Rob Snell led the Little
Bowl attack with three
hits in four trips to the
plate, two of them
doubles. Snell scored one
run and knocked in two.
Klumper struck out 14
batters and scattered
eight hits in picking up
the win. Graham raked
John Crawford and Fred
Schoemaker for eight hits
in the game.
Graham Electric
returns to action Sunday
against Ziebart at 7p.m.
Little Bowl will play
Canada Company in a
5.30 p.m. contest at
Agri culture Park.
Two big innings: lead French to win
The French offence
clicked for 11 runs on 14
hits as they drubbed
Green and Parent 11-4 in
Industrial . League play
last week. °
French put together
two big innings, scoring
five runs in the first in-
ning and .._four in the
fourth, to claim their
second win in four games.
French -got right down
to business pounding Jim
Martin for five runs on
five hits in the first in-
ning. Wayne Kennedy,
Phil Turner, George
Sutton and Jim McCarthy
hit first' inning singles
and Ray Klages added
run scoring double.
Green and Parent got
right back" in the ball
game with four runs in
their half of the second
inning on threed hits and
two walks. Brian McLean
and Dan Duncan. singled
and John Warr chipped in
with a double in the four -
run second inning.
But French went right
back to work scoring four
runs in the bottom of the
fourth on singles' by
Kennedy, Glen Ferguson,
Don McWhinney and a
double by Turner. They
added two more runs in
the sixth inning.
Kennedy led the
French offence with three
hits while Turner, Sutton
and Don McWhinney
added two hits apiece.
Dan Duncan had two hits
for Green and Parent.
French returns to
action Sunday with an
8.30 p.m. game against
Fishers.
House league motocross results
House League
motocross action entered
its third week at Hully
Gully in seven
classifications. ••
Randy Ford took top
spot in the peewee A
,division and was followed
by Brad Armstrong and
Scott Bell. Scott Wilson
took first place honors' in
the peewee B category
with Jim Dickens, second
and David McGregor,
third.
Steve Boyce rode to
victory in the novice B
division with Don Oet-
ting; second and Darin
Culbert, third.
Wayne Ryerson topped
the competition in the
junior B class with Paul
Vanoss, second and
Stuart Galloway, third.
In the Novice A
division, Hugo Maaskant
was first, Jerry Rain-
ville, second and Rob
Maskaant was thir.
Junior B winner Wayne
Ryerson also won the
junior A class with John
Johston and Calvin
James finishing second
and third.
Randy Ford, peewee A
winner, won the Enduro
class.
McLean's homer heads Steelers
The Lakeport Steelers
won their third game in
four starts with a 9-3 win
over Little Bowl, Sunday.
The game was decided
in the first three innings
as Lakeport led 9-3 before
the teams settled into
some defensive ball.
Little Bowl got off to a
quick 3-0 lead in the top of
the first inning as
Lakeport pitcher, Brian
MacKenzie, experienced
control problems.
MacKenzie walked the
first three batters and
they all scooted home on
an error.
Lakeport got right back
in the gaine with four
runs a Iin the first inning
including a three=run

They added four more
runs in the second inning
and scored a single in the
bottom of the third to
round out the scoring.
McLean led Lakep,ort
offensively nailing the'
three -run shot in the first
inning and driving in two
more runs in the second

Frank hagen had two
singles and also scored
two runs,
Bill Black had two of
the Little Bowl four hits.
McKenzie gave up
three runs on four hits
and struck out four.
Players needed for softball league
Any youngsters 14
years of .age and under
wanting to play organized
softball this summer may
still register for one of
four new teams.
This year the Goderich
Recreation Department
offered the softball
program for boys and
girls in two age groups.
To date four teams
have been set up, a girls
and a boys peewee team
and a girls and boys tyke
team.
There is still room on
these teams for any in-,
terested .ballplayers and • •
regi tration may be

recreation office on
Waterloo Street.'
These teams will
participate in a township
softball league with the
schedule beginning June
18. Practices should
begin next week.
Players are most
needed for the peewee
teams, for girls and boys
between the ages of 11
and 14.1
all points of sailing while
Level 3 deals with theory,
safety, and the complete
function of the boat. in
winds up to'10 knots..
For the first time this
year the huron' Sailing
School will offer a group
program for area clubs,
groups or campers. Area
clubs, groups or campers
can participate in one or
two-day programs from
July 23 to August 3.
These groups will be
limited to 16 participants
with all materials for safe
instruction supplied.

Sports win two games
to move into second
Gords Sports moved
into second position in the
Dunlop Division winning
two games in Industrial
League action.
Last week Gords
pounded Ziebart 9-0 and
chalked up their third win
of the season with a 4-1
victory over McGees. The
wins boosted Gord-
s'season record to three
victories in four games
and one point back of
Graham Electric in the
Dunlop Division.
McGees are in third
position, two points out of
first with two wins, a loss
and a tie.
Gords put together a 13 -
hit attack as they routed
Ziebart 9-0 last Wed-
nesday.
Dave Scholl led the
Gords offence with a
single, double and triple
in four trips to the plate.
Schollhdrove in two runs
with a first inning triple
and scored two runs.
Team-mates Warren
Watt, Phil Petrie and
Dennis Williamson
chipped in with two hits
apiece. Petrie singled in a
run in the first inning and
doubled to score two
more in the sixth.
Williamson doubled in the
third to score Scholl and
then singled inthe fifth to
score Scholl again.
Scholl gave up three
hits in the win and was
never in anygreat dif-
ficulty. Des Courtney
relieved in the last three
innings. -.
On Monday Gords
combined seven timely
hits with four McGee
errors to post their third
victory with a 3-1 win.
The teams were tied 1-1
after two innings but
Gords scored a single run
in the fourth and added
two in the fifth for the
win.
Scholl again provided
the offensive .spark with
three hits in as many
trips to ° the plate. He
scored two runs including
the winner in the fourth
inning.
Gords put together four
hits in the fifth inning as
Jim Ginn, Lee Arbour,
Pitrie and Scholl all
singled to score two in-
surance runs.
The Pontiacs scored
their ,, lone run in the
second inning on singlos
by Rick Sowerby, Paul
Kelly and - Ken Daer.
Sowerby and Daer had
two hits apiece for
McGees.
On Monday Gords will
play Lakeport Steel at
8.45 and McGees will
battle -Green and Parent
in a 4 p.m. contest,
Sunday.
Donnelly leads
Canada Company
Mike Donnelly belted a
run -scoring double in the
fifth inning a solo homer
in the seventh to lead
Canada Company to a 5-3
win over Fisher in
Industrial League action,
Sunday.
With Canada Company
trailing 3-2 after three
innings Donnelly put his
bat to work to lif the
Company to its third win
in four games.
Fisher held a 3-2 lead
after four innings but
losing pitcher Doug
Fisher, ran into trouble in
the fifth inning.
Bill Durst led off with a
walk and Stan Doherty
followed with a .double.
Donnelly then drove both
runners in with a double.
In the top of the seventh
Donnelly added an in-
surance run with his first
home run of the season.
Stan Doherty picked up
the win giving "up -three—
runs to Fishers on six
hits. He struck out five
batters. Doug Fisher was
tagged for five runs on 12
hits and struck out one
batter.
Brian Bowman had a
big night offensively for
Canada Company with
four singles in four at
bats and he drove in a run
in the fourth inning.
Donnelly and Tom
O'Brien had two hits
apiece and both scored a
run.
Dennis Lebrun was the
top Fisher batter with
two hits. Team-mate
Frank MacDonald
chipped in with a run -
scoring double and
scored two runs. ,
Both Fishers and
Canada Company
returned to action
Wednesday with Fishers
playing Gords and
Canada Company bat-
tling Lakeport Steel.
Park wins two
in slowpitch play
Meneset Park went on
a run -scoring rampage in
Goderich Mens Slowpitch
League action this week,
hammering Carlow 45-0
and the Orphans 24-1.
The wins improved the
Park record to three wins
against one loss on the
year.
In other action, Tickers
Brickers posted ° their
first win of the season
with 'a 19-15 win over
Champion and then fell
victim to the D and W
Coyotes, who also won
their first game of , the
season with a 10-6 win
over Tickers, Sunday.
The Signal -Star paper
`Leafs won their third
straight game with a 12-7
win over 1863 and
Stothers racked up their
fourth win in as many
games with a 22-9 victory
over R and D.
The Teachers claimed
a 14-13 win over
Denomme and the
Firemen ' shaded ,the
Oldtimers 9-8.

Ladies to play Waterloo Friday
The Goderich Hoff-
meyers Little Plumbers
ladies fastball team are
hoping to play their first
game in the Mid -Western
Ontario Ladies Fastball
League this Friday in
Goderich.
The Little Plumbers
were to open the season
against Milverton here
last Friday but weather
forced the cancellation of
that game. A second
game scheduled for
Tuesday was also can-
celled:
So the Little Plumbers
are anxious to open the
schedule this Friday with
an 8.30 p.m. game against
Waterloo at Agriculture
Park.
In the league Goderich
will play Dublin, Osh-
weken,Tills on burg,
Milverton, Kitchener,
Waterford, Waterloo,
Guelph, Moorefield and
Glanworth.
