Mr. Evens is retiring
after completing his tenth
year as music director
and conductor of the
orchestra this season.
The Goderich Rotary
Club will be holding a
reception during the
intermission for. Mr.
Evens at the Goderich
District Collegiate
Institute. At that time the
public will be able to
meet Mr. Evens as well
as the members of the
London Symphony
Orchestra and the-
Goderich District
Collegiate Institute -
Concert Band which is
performing with the
Symphony on Friday
evening's program.
The concert begins at 8
p.m. and tickets are
available at the door or
from Campbell's in
Goderich.
London Symphony
President, . Andre R.
Pettigrew, has an-
nounced the appointment
of conductor, Victor
Feldbrill as Acting Music
Director for the 1979-1980
season to succeed Mr.
Evens.
Mr. Feldbrill's position
as Acting Music Director
will include extensive
,conducting duties as well
as working with the
Search Committee
leading to the ap-
pbi,n.tment of a per-
manent Music Director in
the 1980-1981 season. The
1979-1980 concert
schedule also includes the
appearance of seven
guest conductors.
Formerly. Music
Director of the Winnipeg
Symphony Orchestra and
resident conductor of the
Toronto Symphony
Orchestra, Mr. Feldbrill
will continue his
association with the
University of Toronto
Orchestra and the CBC
during his London ap-
pointment.
Conductor Brian
Jackson has been re-
appointed'.tosthe position
of Assisstant Conductor
of the London Symphony
Orchestra, a post he has
held since January 1977.
In making the an-
nouncement, . Mr. Pet-
tigrew expressed his
satisfaction that Mr.
Jackson would continue
with his present con-
ducting duties • and
possibly expand his
responsibilities. His
position is sponsored by
the Canada Council and
the Ontario Arts Council'.
The conducting roster
for the 1979-1980 season
was completed with the
announcement of the
guest conductor line-up
including three currently.
active on the Canadian
orchestral scene: Dwight
'Bennett, MusiC Director
of the Thunder Bay
Symphony; Uri Mayer,
conductor of McGill
Symphony; and Timothy
,Vernon, Canadian Opera,
Company conductor. The
international conductors
appearing next season'
will be Jose Serebrier,
Alexis Hauser and Jorge
Mester.

THE L.S.O.
Since the first concert
May 1, 1937, the Londond
Symphony Orchestra has
developed into one of
London's long established
cultural institutions with
a reputation for quality
performance and
responsible community
service.
Last year the London
Symphony performed •67
concerts to a total
audience of 69,000 in
London and 43 concerts to
audiences of 27,000 in the
region. The London
Symphony is Canada's
most active orchestra.
Since 1975, it has been
consistently performing
as many concerts i a •
short eight-month seaon
