Cassidy heard by 15
BY CATH WOODEN
About 15 people showed
up at Robertson school
May 17 to hear Michael
Cassidy, pi ovincial
leader of the New
Democratic Party.
Cassidy was in
Goderich to meet with the
hospital board, labour
union Leaders, and -to join
Huron -Bruce NDP
candidate, Moira Couper,
on her campaign trail.
Cassidy criticized the
Conservative provincial
government for allowing
doctors to ° opt out of
OHIP. He said that 10-20
percent of Ontario doc-
tors are opting out. In
Peterborough and Orillia,
the figure is as high as 70
Percent.
He also spoke about the
recent bed cutbacks in
hospitals. Cassidy
agreed when one man in
his small audience said,
"I'm willing to pay
higher OHIP premiums
to get those beds back."
Cassidy accused the
federal Liberals and the
provincial Tories of
"barely lifting a finger to
protect the public against
rising food prices." even
though they have risen 21

"Their (the Liberals
and Conservatives)
bread is buttered with
corporate support and
that is who they'll turn to
ultimately," Cassidy
said.

union leaders from UAW,
