The Ontario Provincial Police say it is imperitive that citizens have a greater understanding of their role in the com- munity and the• responsibility for maintaining a safe and healthy atmosphere. Neil Shaw Mugford new Legion head At the May meeting of Legion Branch 109, the election Of officers and • committee chairmen was. conducted by Zone Commander George Campbell of Clinton Branch 140. Elected as officers of Branch 109 for the 1979- 1980 ' term were: President -Roy Mugford; First Vice -President - Walter' Sheardown; Second Vice -President - William McCallum; Treasurer -Don OPP airborne The Ontario Provincial Police announced this week that as of Monday May. 14 the force reac- tivated the aircraft patrol program. The Ministry of tran- sportation in conjunction with the OPP have completed the in- stallation of the necessary highway markings for the program. Three Cessna aircraft will patrol high- ways in southern Ontario this summer. In this area one plane will be used to partol Highway 4 between Clinton and London. The aircraft patrol program has been reactivated to increase traffic en{ forcement. McArthur; and Secretary -Stan Youngblut. These officers and the committee chairmen will be installed •with the officers and executive of the Ladies" Auxiliary ,to Branch 109 at a joint installation on the evening of Saturday, May 26. Deputy, Zone Com- mander Robert Chapman was detailed to conduct the nomination and election of officers and executive members of the Ladies' Auxiliary to Legion Branch 109 at their regular meeting this month. The sick and welfare chairman, Comrade Ray Barker, gave a very comprehensive repdrt indicating that members of the Branch, who either are hospitalized or ill at home, are not forgotten by the Branch. Comrade Barker also reported that his committee now has a representative from the Ladies' Auxiliary to ensure . that Auxiliary members also are visited by the sick and welfare committee when required. Discussion of ways and means to improve the traffic flow and parking problem on Stanley Street was left with a Legion committee which is to meet with,the town Let's talk about our economy. The secretary- of the Branch was instructed to contact Westminster Hospital and clarify the situation regarding the visit of the veterans from Westminster for a fishing trip to Goderich in June.
