PAGE 10A—GODERICH SIGNAL -STAR, THURSDAY, MAY 10, 1979 This was one of three choirs to perform at Holmesville Public School's spring concert entitled Holmesville Harmonies held during Education Week. The choir sang three songs directed by Mr. Scholl. The school band played three songs too and the senior students performed in an operetta called, His Majesty's Pie. (Photo by Joanne Buchanan) Jesus -the Saviour or Judge? BY PASTOR ANDERSON FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH The Gospel is God's last message of grace to us. Can we know we possess salvation? What does the Bible.tell us? Who could argue should God punish and put away the, sinner? Surely we deserve nothing better. Yet in His love God in- stead of putting the believing • sinner away, has put his sin away. Our assurance of salvation comes to us through the believing of the written word of God. What He declares We must believe just as "Abraham believed God and it was counted to him for righteousness." God wanted to be sure that we would understand His message. I draw your attention to the little word "Are" which as we know means, here and now. - It cannot be made to mean something still in the future, but a present fact to be believed and enjoyed in personal experience. When God tells you you are saved then You are Saved and there is no room for doubt We are saved by the grace of God and we are saved the moment we believe. , It is because Christ came to save sinners, it is because of His work on my behalf and because of my faith that I can declare that I AM SAVED For God's word in Ehp. 2:8 tells me "BY GRACE YE ARE SAVED." In 1 John 2:12 "Your sins are forgiven you for His name sake." • Acts 13:39 "All that believe are justified from all things." inister's stud 1 John 3:2 "Now are we the Sons of God." God's word is full of facts. Facts gathered around little words so that we might clearly understand what God would have us know. Facts gathered around little words such as "hath and have." 11 Tim 1:8, 9 "God hath saved us." 1 • John 5:11 "God hath given to us eternal life." Eph. 1:7 "We have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins." How is it with you? Are you sure of your salvation? Or do you think that perhaps you are saved, or do you only hope that you will be spared the judgment of God. Is there any doubt in your mind? How can one know peace with God, know abundant life, and sing "Hallelujah!" What a Saviour with meaning if there is. still doubt in their mind about their own salvation? Please, read carefully the word of God as written in John 5 John' 5:13 "These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God, That ye may know that Ye have eternal life." In this word "know" we have assurance, not doubt. Bible Missionary. Church MAY 10th - MAY 20th 7:45 NIGHTLY Evangelist: Dennis Johnson 4 Holiness Bible Church CORNER HURON ROAD 8 WALNUT ST. The Apostle Paul in 11 Tim 1:12 records, "For I know whom I have believed and am per- suaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto Him against that day." And in 1 John 3:19 we read, "We know we have passed from death unto life." If we rest on the finished work of Christ on Calvary and have not the assurance of salvation, then we are not taking God at his written word. We are not believing what God says is ours in return for our faith. 1 Cor. 6:2 "Behold now is the accepted time behold now is the day of salvation." Remember that 'today Jesus comes as our Saviour with . extended. arms to receive. "Him that cometh unto me 1. will in no wise cast out. Come unto me all Ye that labor and are heavy laden and I will give you rest." Howeve.r should we reject, or neglect His offer then we are truly lost for in Eph. 2:12 we are told that "To be without Christ is to be without God or hope." Should we reject God's message of salvation and reject Jesus as Saviour New chairman Lorne Murray of Moorefield was recently elected as chairman of the Ontario Conservation Authorities' Chairman's Committee. After win- ning the Southwestern Ontario representatives election. Mr. Murray went on to be chosen as the senior executive member of the group that represents Ontario's 38 Conservation Authorities. Mr. Murray has been the Maryborough Township representative to the Maitland Valley and Grand River Con- servation Authorities for several years, and is currently serving his fourth term as chairman ofM.V.C.A. He is the past reeve of Maryborough, and a past warden of Wellington County. then when .He comes again it will be as our Judge and He will take vengcnce upon those as we are told in 11 Thess. 1:8 "Who know not God and obey not the gospel." You must then decide will Jesus be your Saviour or you- Judge?
