All people have all states which switch back and forth dozens of tirne's in any day .... and age is no barrier. A child has an adult ego state; an adult has . a. child ego. state. Children. in the Big Sing. musical success The Big Sing, spon- soredby the Association of Male Choirs of Ontario, in Goderich, on Saturday, April 28 was a tremen- dous success. Knox. The four choirs joining with the Goderich Har- bouraires under "the direction of Lorne Dot- terer • were, The Brant Men . of Song from Brantford With Gary Woodward as conductor; The Queensmen from Toronto with Robert Farrar as conductor; The International Harvester ale; Chorus with Jim • Hewitt as conductor; and The Fleming -Gray Chorus from Cambridge with Duncan Addison as conductor. The large crowd was thrilled as the choirs moved through their two hour program composed of nine massed choir numbers with each of the choir conductors directing one or two numbers. In addition, each choir sang four or five solo numbers. , Mr. Bruce Sully acted as Master of Ceremonies. John Wyatt, Chairman of the Planning Com- mittee, wishes to thank the community for 'the tremendous support afforded the Big Sing. Proceeds of the event will be used to help establish the Memorial Scholar- ship which the Har- bouraires areoffering at the Goderich District Collegiate Institute to honour their .original conductor, the late George Buchanan. HamiIton"system learn to identify these three ego states in themselves, in their friends, in their parents, in their teachers in fact, in just about every conceivable way possible. "I've learned . to know myself," said the teacher of a Grade 4 class. "TA has'' certainly helped me," The children, in her class learn about the four life positions .... I'm okay, you're okay; I'm not 'okay, you're not okay; I'm okay, you're not okay; and I'm not okay, you're okay. In her class, the children learn about "stroking" people. In grown-up language, it is usually referred to as "positive" and "negative" strokes. But in her Grade '4 class, it is called "warm fuzzies". and "cold pricklies". If someone says seThething nice to you tor does something nice for you, that's a positive stroke .... or a warm fuzzy. If someone says something unkind to you or does something unkind to you, that's a negative stroke or a cold prickly. "The children learn veryquickly that a warm fuzzy is nicer than a cold prickly," the teacher - smiled. When professional activity day ended, the conversations between teaching . professionals. was interesting to eavesdrop on. "Why do we have to clutter up a little child's brain with this kind of stuff?" suggested one teacher to a friend."I think all this interferes with a child's right to a happy carefree childhood." "Sometimes I'm so messed up myself I just wouldn't want to get involved in all that," said another. " I'm hired to teach academic subjects. I need to know how to do the best job of that before I can help one of my students figure out what his own vaTiies are." "I wouldn't have cone here today if it hadn't been planned for me," commented another. "Sometimes I wonder why I don't sell brushes and forget about teaching:" discaot al& °c arcien Centre THERE'S ONE AT EACH OF OUR 16 BRANCHES AND THEY'RE . gr FILLED WITH THE THINGS YOU NEED FOR BETTER GARDENING! `li Superb Outdoor Carpet You Can Install Yourself For Patios, Walkways, Around AND ALONG FLOWER BEDS '; ,.
