Over 300 attend W.M.S. meeting

Over 340 delegates
registered last week for
the 32nd annual meeting
of the Synodical Society
of Hamilton and London
Women's Missionary
Society (W..D.) of the
Presbyterian church in
Canada. They met in
Knox Presbyterian
Church, Goderich, the
guests of Huron
Presbyterial. Mrs. G.L.
Royal was general
convenor and the theme
was, The Light of the
World.
The president, Mrs.
Carl Remus of Walker-
ton, was in charge of the
Tuesday sessions and
after constituting of
Synodical, Miss Beatrice
Scott, returned
missionary from India
(now residing < in Port
Elgin), gave the
devotional thoughts. The
Reverend G.L. Royal
welcomed all to the
church and Mrs. Robert
McAllister, president of
Huron Presbyterial,
welcomed everyone to
Huron Presbyterial.
Miss Margaret
Alexander of Fort Erie
introduced Dr. Margaret
Kennedy, who is home
from India. She gave a
Stirring message on the
work done in India and
the challenge that is
presented today. She has
been in that country for 36
years in the Bhil Field,
Northern India.
The banquet on
Tuesday evening was
well attended and head
table guests were Rev.
and Mrs. G.L. Royal,
Rev. and Mrs. G.C.
Dalzell, Rev. and Mrs.
E.G.Nelson, Mayor and
Mrs. Harry Worsell, Dr.
Margaret Kennedy, Miss
Ida White, Miss Margaret
Ramsay, Miss Lily
McArthur, Miss Isabel
Hunter and Miss Beatrice
Scott.
Greetings were brought
from Council by Miss
Isabel Hunter; from
Synod by Rev. G.C.
Dalzell; from Presbytery
by Rev. E.G. Nelson; and
from the Town of
Goderich by Mayor
Worsell. Small gifts were
presented to the ladies
who have served the
Presbyterian .Church as
missionaries and Ewart
College.,
The evening program
began with a musical
program presented by
Goderich C.O.C. and
junior Choir.
Rev. G.L. Royal told,
the story of all the win-
dows in the Sanctuary
depicting the life of Christ
from His birth to His
resurrection.
An inspiring panel was
presented by Miss Evelyn
Murdoch, educational
consultant, with panel
members Mrs. Joanne
Walters of Hamilton,
Rev. Gordon Timber of
Halton Hills Towers and
Mrs. Jean Cassidy,
educational consultant.
Their topic was
Ministries of the Church
Today, stressing the
greatest need. as the
contact with another
person to fill an
emotional need.
Mrs. Walters stressed
hospital visiting,
especially for the ter-
minally ill. She urged all
W.M.S. members to
become better
acquainted with and
overcome the fear of
hospitals to help the
patients whom they visit.
She urged all to be a
church for others and
share their lives with one
who is lonely.
Rev. Gordon Timbers
spoke on nursing homes
and the fear of old age,
stressing the importance
of sharing mission study,
the sacraments and
keeping the aged in-
formed about church
activities.
Mrs. Jean Cassidy
spoke on the work of the
deaconess in the church.
An Easter cantata was
presented by 20 young
people of the Lucknow
and Kinlough churches.

OVER 50 YEARS
The 32nd annual meeting of the Synodical Society of
Haniilton and London W.M.S. (W.D.) held at Knox
Presbyterian Church in Goderich for two days last
week, wound down to a close on Wednesday with the
election and installation of officers for the coming

ning session which began
with a hymn sing led by
Mrs. Robert Bissett and
Miss Mary Jane Bissett
who had led in previous
sessions.
The ten Presbyterials
then formed their groups
for discussion on the
topic: The State of the
Church.
Rev. G.L. Royal and
members of Knox
Presbyterian Church,
Goderich held an im-
pressive communion
service.
Dr. Margaret Kennedy
was again the key -note
speaker on India and
Mrs. F.A. Creasey of
Chatham presented the
financial estimates for
1979.

Area woman dies
MRS. EDITH
NORMA BISSET
Mrs. Edith Norma
Bisset of Colborne
Township died in
Alexandra Marine and
General Hospital,
Goderich on Monday,
April 9 at the age of 87.
She was born in Howick
Township on June 28, 1891
to William and Sarah
(Alexander) Sanderson.
She lived in Gorrie and
Harriston before moving
to Goderich during her
high school years.
On June 6, 1917 she was
married to James Bisset
in Goderich.
She was a member of
the Goderich Rebekah
Lodge and Knox
Presbyterian Church.
She was predeceased
by her husband in
December of 1951.
She is survived by three
children, Mrs. Helen
Pirie, Mrs. Allan (Betty)
Graham, and James all
of R.R. 5, Goderich; nine
grandchildren and one
-great-grandchild.
The Goderich Rebekah
Lodge held a memorial
service for the late Mrs.
Bisset on 'Tuesday
evening, April 11.
A funeral service was
held at McCallum
Funeral Home in
Goderich on Wednesday,
April 11 at 2 p.m. The
Reverend G.L. Royal
officiated assisted by the
Reverend Robert Bisset
and the Reverend Peter
Walter.
Interment was in
Colborne Cemetery,
Colborne Township.
Pallbearers were Bill
Graham, David Graham,
Michael Graham,
Andrew Pirie, Jim
Howson and Steve
Howson. -
